Description

All of the magical adventure of J.R.R. Tolkein's thrilling "Lord of the Rings" trilogy comes to life in this brilliantly animated tale of the enchanted land of Middle Earth, and the brave band of hobbits, heroes and wizards who set out to save it. Covering the events of the first two books of the series -- "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers" -- brave hobbit Frodo Baggins sets out from the Shire with his friends Sam, Meri and Pippin, to destroy the magic ring his uncle Bilbo has bequeathed him. Joined by brave warriors Aragorn and Boromir, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, and the powerful wizard Gandalf the Grey, the fellowship struggles against the forces of darkness that threaten to overtake the land. Featuring the vocal talents of John Hurt ("Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "Alien") and Anthony Daniels (both "Star Wars" trilogies), and directed by animation legend Ralph Bakshi ("Cool World," "Fritz the Cat").

Now obviously this version of LOTR is not as awesome as Peter Jackson's trilogy, however thats not really a fair comparison. I find this to be a really good version of LOTR. Despite the fact that it only covers the first 2 books this is one of the best cartoons I have ever seen, in fact I don't really think they treated this like a little kids movie. One thing I do like better about this version is that they kept it more true to the book, also I like this Frodo Baggins much better than the Elijah Wood one, less wimpy and more brave and once again more like the book. If You're a big fan of The Lord of the Rings I strongly suggest that you give this version a chance!

This movie is very close to the book outside of leaving out Tom and the forest/barrow downs it stayed true. Excellent voice acting Sam was a little to gay but again comedy in a dark film helps! Jacksons films were engaging/ entertaining but they were all fluff no meat and potatoes from the book. Just wish they let Ralph finish the series and maybe take a shot at the Silmarillion
