Thought it was great

I read the book years ago so I figured I might as well watch the movie. There are parts in the movie I'm glad they left out of the book....I don't want to give away specifics but I was glad. I thought the way the movie was filmed was great. The cinematography was spot on and very visually stunning. I definetly think you should just watch it for yourself and you may be pleasantly surprised how good it really is. Read the book also :-)
Captures the feeling of the novel

Great soundtrack, great performances. Captures the feeling of the novel.
One professional reviewer above said the dialogue is laughable if it's taken out of context. The dialogue in the book is equally telegraphic but it's all in what's not said.
Everyone is in their own hell because living the dream of the 'me' era didn't make them happy.

I am a huge admirier of this film. I think it I a very difficult film to swallow and certaintly leaves you feeling cold and indifferent. But it's also one of those films that you can't stop thinking about afterwards. It goes to cold and honest places and shows us cold and bored unfullfilled lives of people that people think should be something to envy. But as in reality, having everything at your fingertips can be more deadly than having nothing.

That's right I was tottaly turned on by this movie, I don't think there wad a body part male of female left off the screen. Now pull up my pants and watch it again.... NOTHING Mickey was so great in this movie but nothing happens, same with Billy Bob and Kim great performances so friggin beliveable but you might as well just have filmed them going to CVS to buy there kids school supplies. Cause they don't do a thing. Rent it or buy it if you want to watch the sex but useless otherwise!!
Horrible!!!!

This movie was HORRIBLE!!!! It had no point, you couldnt identify with any of the characters and it was ipossible to follow. The only good thing about the movie was the soundtrack.

Have you ever watched a movie all the way to the end thinking it would get better, but then it never does? This is how I felt at the end of this movie. I thought with it having Kim, Mickey, Billy Bob, etc., that it should really be good. I'd be embarrassed if I were one of those big name actors in this movie. This movie was nothing but people staying drugged up, waking up from having three/foursomes, and how sad their lives were. I couldn't even feel any sympathy for anyone even when they had bad things happen to them. Entirely void of any real value--unless the ending was supposed to "imply" some value or concern for another person?? Wasn't sure.
Seriously--I wish I hadn't wasted my time watching this.
Vampires

This movie was written to include a major plotline about vampires that was cut from the film by the studio. This was done after the whole film was shot with the vampire part included.
Wait a minute!! Vampires!?
Who shoots a movie where vampires that actually devoured flesh... where the vampires were just an add-on that could be removed without a major part of the movie appearing to be missing!?!?
You're right. No one shoots a vampire film and then removes the vampires. And then has the film go on to be any good.
Three good things:
-The 80's were kindof interesting the way they were different. This has that.
-The LA film executives thing always gets me to pay attention at least a bit and Billy Bob Thorton has a few decent lines (as much as I could stand to watch of the film... but don't let that color the review too much).
-Not much else.
Bad things:
-What was with the whiny revisionist history about what was big and popular in the 80's to include swinging threesomes with two dudes? That didn't sound like what I remember about 80's pop culture at all.
-I had read about the vampire plot line removal and I was convinced I would spot a few little pieces in the background... I couldn't. And it wasn't because the film was so clever. It was... well, it was a really crappy movie with no cleverness.
-Don't people have better projects than this to put money into??? How did this ever get greenlit?
Biggest take-away: It may have been better as a actual vampire movie after all and I'm sure it would have been a crappy vampire moive. That is saying something.
