Description

A rag-tag band of survivors of a nuclear holocaust head for Albany, New York, the only city in America spared in the apocalypse. Tanner, Denton and Keegan are co-workers at an underground military facility. They find themselves an all-terrain vehicle and set out for the (now) wilds of up-state New York. Along the way they pick up a number of survivors, including a surly and incorrigible teenager. On the way to their destination, they find themselves fighting not just mutant insects and the savage landscape, but themselves as they try to forge bonds to survive.

  • Why does it have to look so bad?

I’m 61 years old and I remember this movie well, I saw it when I was 20 years old and I cannot believe how bad it looks. There are other movies that are older and look great, why not this movie?? Then you have the audacity to charge $10 to buy...get real. I will buy when it gets a makeover.
  • It’s the vehicle that is the star

I liked the book much better, and the movie butchered the book so I can see why the author completely distanced themselves. But really it’s the armored motorhome that is the reason for this movie’s existence. This is no CGI or claymation creation. It was built for the movie and as far as I know is still out there somewhere in private ownership. As a kid I wanted this vehicle, actually I still want it. Why it has not shown up at Burning Man I have no idea.

This has always been a hard movie to find. This and The Last Chase with Lee Majors. Was a favorite movie growing up.

Schlocky sci-fi with awful special effects and brain dead plot. It would definitely be more entertaining if you were completely stoned.

Twenty-five years after it's official release on home video, "Damnation Alley" is again available. For those familiar with the "gray market" versions, this is definitely a step up... but it's still in "full frame" / 4:3 mode. The source print is good, but having seen a new print on the big screen in 2008, there is better widescreen source material available, so why Apple relied on a panned and scanned 4:3 print is beyond me... but, at least it's here. For the fanboys who have heard much about the legendary tale of the "Sci-Fi Battle of 1977," you can finally see the film that 20th Century Fox was POSITIVE would blow away their "other" scheduled summer sci-fi release - a tiny little film called "Star Wars." Well... history showed us that "Damnation Alley" was a huge bomb that was wrestled from the director, disowned by the writer of the novel upon which it was based, cut together by 20th Century Fox executives in a panic, and unleashed upon the world nearly a year after it was supposed to be. But hey... how can you NOT like a film that has mutated armored killer cockroaches?

Great movie, thank you I-Tunes for having it here. Pity though it is in 4:3 rather than Widescreen but it's better than nothing

I loved this movie, I watched it for the first time when I was in high school, back in 1980. If you like movies that are based on diasters, end of the world stuff, you will definitly like this movie. It has the late George Peppard and young Jan-Michael Vincent. The special effects are not the best but it doesn't matter because the story line and the chemistry between the actors makes the movie enjoyable to watch.
