Description

Sir Lionel Barrymore stars in a twisted tale of terror and murder! In this horror classic from master of the macabre Tod Browning (Dracula, Freaks), banker Paul Lavond (Barrymore) escapes from Devil's Island seventeen years after being framed by his three business partners. A fellow escapee, Marcel (Henry B. Walthall), shows Lavond how he can shrink animals--and people--to the size of dolls and control them via telepathy. But when Marcel suddenly dies, his widow, Malita (Rafaela Ottiano), persuades Lavond to continue her husband's work. Now, Lavond disguises himself as an old woman, Madame Mandelip, and opens a doll shop with Malita ... from which he dispatches shrunken people to kill his enemies. Based on the novel Burn, Witch, Burn! by Abraham Merritt.

I am a fan of Tod Browning and his edgy work. For the time period "The Devil Doll" was released, Tod pushed the envelope as he did in, "Freaks" (A very controversal film). In my opinion, it belongs in the category of other top-notched classics in the Horror genre. A must see, you won't be sorry you did.
