Description

Imagine a novel so overwhelmingly hypnotic, so tremendously horrifying that it paralyzes its audience with fear and turns even its most sensible readers insane. When the author disappears, an insurance investigator hired to find the writer discovers far more than he could ever imagine in this spellbinding thriller. Starring Emmy and Golden Globe-nominee Sam Neill ("Jurassic Park," TV's "Merlin"), Jürgen Prochnow ("The Da Vinci Code," "The English Patient"), Julie Carmen ("Gloria," "The Milagro Beanfield War"), Emmy-winner David Warner ("Titanic," TV's "Masada") and Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Charlton Heston ("Ben Hur," "The Ten Commandments"). Directed by John Carpenter ("Escape from New York," "They Live").

This film disturbed me in some ways. But in an interesting way. Some of the imagery. Scary. Grotesque. Good cast. Well directed by Carpenter.

If you love horror, especially H P Lovecraft, you will love this movie. It has the cosmic horror, the chaotic madness, and strange books that drive fans insane. The cast is perfect. Keep an eye on the glove box.

In the mouth of madness is unpredictable, and before it’s time. Lead role was cast perfectly and any fan of Sam Neil, or John Carpentar will love this film.

This is what horror movies should aspire to be. Great cast, perfect timing, and a plot that not only delivers scares but a distrubing undercurrent of events in the storyline that are trully horrific when you dive deep into them. Can't recommend this enough.

I thought this was one of John Carpenter's Best only because the plot was unexpecterd. It was quite spooky.. and you really don't know the real reason behind the movie until the bitter end. Then you realize what is really going on underneath the whole tone of the movie..

True horror fans will rejoice that this movie made it to itunes, all other people will complain and say it seems to be a "made for tv movie" or allege that i-tunes has its employees write reviews, and give bad movies 5 star ratings. I requested this movie, I gave it 5 stars... I think somebody has a grudge against this movie b/c it gave him a few nightmares...
  • On strange movie, in my collection, but seldom watched

This is one strange movie. Like "Event Horizon", this movie is not what you expect. It is Sam Neill's contribution to the Cthulu genre. Not mentioning that upfront does a disservice to potential watchers. Jurgen Prochnow's involvement should be a major clue, as if being directed by John Carpenter is not enough. It is a fictional movie about people being affected by fictional material, and it affects you, not as dramatically as in the movie. but if you are the type to have bad dreams, you may not want to watch this. It is very "Sam Neill", in my opinion. He was the ideal actor to be cast for this movie in my opinion. If you like horror movies, I guess it is OK. If you like John Carpenter movies, I guess it is OK. If you like weird movies, go for it. It is probably not a good movie to recommend to your wife or girlfriend, unless they like horror a lot. Watching this movie is a lot like hitting yourself in the head with a rock. It feels good when you stop. This is all my opinion of course, and others may feel differently. I generally like science fiction, even when it leans towards horror, but this one is way out there. Prince of Darkness was a much better movie, and it was strange enough.
  • 5 Stars...really?

This movie was poorly acted by the lead, a little slow, and basically had all of the components of a made for TV movie. I guarantee that i-tunes has a handful of employees who write these overcomplimentary 4 and 5-Star reviews.
  • Another John Carpenter Classic!

This is one of John Carpenter's best. It stars Sam Neil who is one of my favorite actors. This is one sick and twisted movie. I don't want to ruin any of it but it is A MUST SEE!
