As soon as I saw this movie I knew I had to watch it. Actually, I mostly wanted to watch it just because Tobey Maguire is one of my favorite actors and I saw he was in it. I wasn’t expecting it to be that good, but it was actually quite funny and touching. It’s now one of my favorite movies.for being a 1998 movie, it was actually really good. Like the color in B&W with everything, it was seamless. This is a must-buy. And must-watch. 5/5 πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

What if you could move into a town untouched by the seven deadly sins? A town where every soul was as fresh as the morning dew, and perfection was simlpy taken for granted? First you'd learn that their exposure to the "outside" was strictly and completely limited, for to know history is to know the very things that steal your innocence. When the innocence starts to go, it snowballs into an avalanche of human nature, the stuff of religious sermons. Joy and desire. Guilt and shame. This is the "better world" of our collective memories, always set in someone's childhood, which never really existed, and never can exist. Its awakening to the world we actually live in is beautiful and emotionally moving. Pleasantville is what happens when we try to live in that magical past that we remember, but never really was. Just watch it.

Don't know whether this is a good movie or not. iTunes and Amazon have a monopoly and thus are overpriced for a single showing of this film. Where have all the video stores gone? Oh, iTunes and amazon blew them away with lower fees before they gained exorbitant market shares. Now they charge around $10 a show. Welcome to the new world.

Though the beginning was kind of a rough patch, the rest of the film was captivating. The film showcases the juxtaposition of society then, and now, and how they interact with each other. Must watch!!

A film that starts out as a light and cute Hollywood comedy evolves beautifully into a soul-searching examination of human expectations. The "Father Knows Best" world of a a 50s sitcom begins to unravel when a brother and sister from the late 20th century are pulled into the TV world and generate real emotions in the characters. This metamorphosis causes the black and white world to slowly turn to color. Those who fear change rise up to confront and squash the threat to their perfect world.

A good, solid script, followed by great acting through and through. The plot is fairly straight forward after the first third of the flick, but still has enough twists to keep it interesting.

The story tells the audience that if you want to feel emotion you can. You truely aren't limited to just hppiness; people can have different feelings and life is not perfect. From a Psychology point-of-view, the town was able to experience the change and freedom of emotions; and given a audience who doesn't know anything but perfectness; you would be able to change their thought process. Overall this movie does show a strong sense of richeousness in the sense that freedom is attainable by anyone or anything
