Imprisoned with another troubled couple in a house of true horrors, Jack and Stephanie are forced to play a one-night game of life and death with a crazed murderer… and each other. When they come face-to-face with evil, they discover it is instantly recognizable.

  • Go read the book

The book is FANTASTIC. It is original, well written, terrifying and has a massive amount of detail in it. This movie tragically made the book look mediocre . I rented it right after I finished reading the book and I was laughing all the way through it because it is ridiculous. The thing that most bothered me is how much they trimmed everything. I was honestly expecting something much better from LionsGate...

I have nothing against the new genre of Christian horror, but I really just couldn’t enjoy this film. It’s predictable and quite frankly plays like a tv film.

As far as this movie goes for a rating, it is definitely a good movie! I read the book and went on to buy it shortly thereafter because I love a good book! This movie did follow closely behind the book as wel as change up and edit a few things, some edits were goos while some shouldn't have been touched. As I have gotten older and gone through college and now critique books, films, plays, and other forms of entertainment, I was disappointed with the rotten tomato response that this movie recieved! This movie was not following the shining, the ring, the decent, or any other horror fil!! This movie was following a book that was well written and later on well directed to follow a given story!! This movie gives a good story that is fast paced but easy to follow with a cast that you as the audience can relate to with backgrounds that can capture the heart and emotions of the audience as well as give you an ending that will have you wanting to change your life for the better!! This movie is most definitely worth a rent at least!

I had read the book a couple of times and when I saw that there was a movie based off of it I was really excited. However, I was a little disappointed when some things were changed (but hey that is what happen in movies.) Anyway, I am big into christian horror films/books and I would diffidently recommend anyone to watch it as I have done so in the past for the book, because it has such an awesome inspiration for anyone trying to battle the darkness within them!

I love horror films and can usually even get some enjoyment out of a crappy one. BUT THIS movie was ALL OVER THE PLACE. A mess. Not scary. a complete train wreck from start to finish... P.U.
  • Its not as good as everyone says... but definitely not as bad...

Here it is. I didn't think it was that great, but I didn't think it was a terrible movie. Its a mediocre horror/thriller, that could have been a lot better. I read the book... there were things in the book I was confused about because of how unclear they were... and the same things in the movie. I can't particularly spell it out for you though. The acting is B-rated, but definitely tolerable. The visuals, once at the house, were very nice. The terror and suspense was handled pretty good. It wasn't totally scary though. If you're looking for some good scares... you won't find them here unless you easily scare. Sure, a scary, haunted house in the middle of nowhere - how cliche. Right? Well, as a majority of horror movies tend to take place (at some point in the movie if not entirely) at a scary looking house in the middle of no-where... even an abandoned town... etc... that's a part of the genre I think. Many movies, you wonder why in the world the family decides to move to a house away from the city, that is also too big for the family... but this movie actually has a reason for taking place at a scary haunted house. I don't mean in a physically logical sense (ex: they are on their way to somewhere for some reason and the path to their destination goes through the middle of no where and something happens and they end up somewhere like a haunted house). The house actually represents something in the story. It represents their own lives. That's what I got or understood from both the book and the movie. But feel free to disagree with me, everyone seems to always disagree with everybody anyways. Its overly discussed, but just because it was based on a story written by a Christian author, and created by a film company that makes a lot of Christian films, doesn't mean the movie is Christian in of itself. Sure, its more appropriate... there are a lot of secular horror films without a lot of language, sex and nudity. My opinion, the movie is good-natured and as someone else said, "feel-good". If you want to call it a Christian movie, call it a Christian movie, its easy to justify. But if you don't want to call it a Christian movie, don't - that's just as easy to justify. Why it's rated R though, is beyond me. Its more of a PG-13 movie in my opinion. Overall, its an entertaining movie. If you want to watch something that's not too scary but is kind of scary (based on its suspense), then this is a good choice - but perhaps not the best. So, do what ever you want to.
  • GREAT movie! and if you like it, you should read the book too!

Ted Dekker is one of New York Time's Best Selling Authors. His thrilling adrenaline-laced books keep you on your toes, and if your not careful, up all night. Frank Perretti is also a great author and his works are nothing to joke around about. This movie will keep your eyes glued to the screen and mouth wide open the whole time. However, I have found that this movie and book are more tradgic than scary, and if you pay attention, you will know why. As reviewed by Library Journal, "Ted Dekker is a master of suspense." I can garuntee you, this movie is worth every sinlge penny.
