Description

The time is the 1950s: seedy Brooklyn private eye Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) is hired by shady Louis Cyphre (Robert De Niro) to locate a pop singer who reneged on a debt. Harry ventures into Harlem, the first step of a Heart of Darkness-inspired odyssey. Each time Harry makes contact with someone who might know the singer's whereabouts, he or she is killed in a horrible, ritualistic fashion; a Satanic cult seems to be at the bottom of all the carnage. Harry solves the mystery, all right. He just didn't know that he had the answer all along -- even before Louis entered his office.

The review below titled "warning do not watch this" is clueless. In fact the exact opposite, DO WATCH THIS MOVIE, if you like suspense, action, with a little horror/thrill. It is good to see Robert De Niro in a different role than a gangster, that is what makes this movie good. It is different, and the ending is a surprise. Also if you like the movie, The Serpent and the Rainbow, you may like this. rent or buy and enjoy!

This is a beautiful yet gruesome homage to the film noir movies of the 40s and 50s. Mickey Rourke plays it dead-on with just the right amount of suave non-chalance and increasingly gnawing self-awareness and dread. Also features Lisa Bonet as she completely shattered her good-girl Cosby image (chicken-blood anyone?) and Robert DeNiro at his creepiest!! warning...some of the images in this film will be burned in your brain forever!

absolutely awful movie. plot was all over the place, horrible script, and acting was pitiful. if you love robert de niro like me then by all means do not watch this movie. he is barely even in the movie and only put on the cover and given credit to help boost the popularity of this horrible film. do not waste your money on renting this. even if it was free i would still raise caution
  • One of the best movies ever!
