Description

As Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, Forest Whitaker gives one of the greatest performances of modern movie history. This is Amin's incredible story as seen through the eyes of Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy), a young Scotsman who becomes the volatile leader's personal physician. Due in part to Amin's unexpected passion for Scottish culture, Amin even proclaims himself "The Last King of Scotland". Seduced by Amin's charisma and blinded by decadence, Garrigan's dream life becomes a waking nightmare of betrayal and madness from which there is no escape. Inspired by real people and events, this gripping, suspenseful stunner is filled with performances you will never forget.

I have been to Africa and its crazy over there. There are a lot of wild west type of people especially in Nigeria which places you can't even go. There is so much corruption. I would of liked if they showed more of the relationship with his wives. And I was disappointed that it was not really based on true events. Such as the Doctor! There was no doctor in real life. Im referring to the main character. It was based on someone else.

A terrific film thanks to the excellent performances of Forest Whitaker and James McAvoy. Although it is a fictional story, the terrifying conditions the Ugandan people lived under for years are well documented by it.

I cannot believe I never watched this movie until now. It is the most important movie that I've watched in a long time. Forest Whitaker without a doubt steals the movie; he transformed so well. Definitely Forest at his best, and I am glad he received an Oscar for it. I loved it.

It's what is not said in this movie that makes it so amazing. Idi Amin was a really nasty person. This movie makes him a little more human than I think he was.

This movie is a true winner that explores the reign of Idi Amin in Uganda. Much of the first half of the movie is rather slow and somewhat repetitive, which keeps it from being a five star movie, but the second half of the movie more than makes up for it. As the tension in the story builds and then explodes, you cannot help, but be on the edge of your seat. The most magnificent thing about the movie is Forrest Whitaker's performance as Idi Amin. The authenticity and passion of his acting has rarely been paralleled. In the last ten years, I can only compare it to the performance of Sean Penn in Milk.

This movie was one of the best I have seen with Forest, if not THE best role he has played. This movie has it's fictional elements in it, which is noted at the end of the movie itself. It is extremely violent, and some graphic sexual scenes. However, it was wonderfully made, no one else could have played Amin. I have to say I probably would not have picked their choice of actors with the doctor and Brit nutcase. Gillian Anderson has a very small role in it, in which she was good....not great, but good. Historically, it has it's accurate points and it's Hollywood liberities. But you will find that in any movie. If this was not the case....we wouldnt go to the movies. It's worth the rent as well as it is a good buy. However, it leave you with a few questions in the end. Not meant for Family movie night :)
