Description

Based on the first of Jean Auel's four bestselling prehistoric novels set 35,000,000 years ago, this epic film tells the story of one woman's struggle for acceptance amidst a barbaric clan. Daryl Hannah ("Grumpy Old Men," "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman") is the Cro-Magnon who seeks shelter among a tribe of Neanderthals. Extraordinary location photography and a script by John Sayles ("Passion Fish'" "Eight Men Out") make this a truly stunning motion picture. Co-starring Pamela Reed ("Junior," "Kindergarten Cop") and Curtis Armstrong ("Risky Business," "Revenge of the Nerds").

  • Faithful to the book

I can't believe the harsh ratings people give a movie made over 30 years ago. It was mostly faithful to the book, it wasn't supposed to be some great movie about social justice. It was a movie based on the first book in a series about a female hero of prehistoric earth and everything about that was interesting and female-empowering to its intended audience. It shouldn't even be rated on Rotten Tomatoes at all.

I hadn't seen this in...decades, painful to be able to make such a statement but it's good fun. There are cringe moments galore but it's a fun prehistoric romp. The beginning offers the best feels seing the littler girl protangonist rescued from natures perils but the second half of the movie had me skipping through some scenes until the end. It's almost impossible to imagine what true 'primitives' would interact like... so to be overly critical is pointless.

she's too old! she's only supposed to be like 14 at the oldest, she had her kid at 11. and the other's don't look like neanderthals.

I read all of the books when they came out and was really excited when the movie was released, but it didn't quite live up to the book, although I still give it 4 stars for trying to capture the greatness of the book. This release from itunes is really of poor quality, I would wait and rent this somewhere else or wait until itunes releases this in HD to rent.
  • Read the Book FIRST

for those who haven't read the book, you should read it first. this movie will not make much sense otherwise. there are many things that the film makers left out and changed. personally, i do feel they could have done a better job with the material. the book series is one of my favorites. and i look forward for the final book in the saga to come out. Jean Auel's characters are complex and interesting. you find yourself experiencing their world, laughing, crying, and loving alone with them.

Everything about this film is lame from the cinematography to the script to the production values. Not sure why I watched the entire film, I must have been borderline comatose. Just terrible and a complete waste of time.

This movie was way ahead of it's time. It is super deep, With an amazing story line. Jean Auel does a beautiful job at shaping our imagination to help us live the prehistoric. The screen adaptation is right on and keeps you entertained thru out the whole film. thank you itunes for this weeks feature film being "clan of the cave bear" Arrika
