Description

A streaking comet explodes in outer space hurling a five mile wide meteor, and surrounding fragments, on a collision course with Earth. Scientists from both the U.S. and U.S.S.R. work feverishly to redirect their nuclear rockets at the meteor in an effort to deflect it away from Earth. Spectacular effects and a star-studded cast.

When I was a kid in Afghanistan I used to stare at a life magazine layout of this movie for hours! All those stars and the big spectacle Of a meteoroid coming towards the earth. Wishing to be able to see these magnificent movies. Well, finally got my chance. I liked it but why couldn't I get the Ferrari I had also wished!

Before "Armageddon" or "Deep Impact", there was... METEOR! It established the basic rules for later "doomsday from space" movies- i.e. "random objects from space will strike large cities with ICBM accuracy". Mighty cheesy by today's standards even with the likes of Sean Connery and Henry Fonda on board. This movie is a fun trip down memory lane if you lived during the era it was originally made, however younger generations will probably want to stick with the aforementioned remakes of the story.
