Description

Set in the 1970s amidst the eruption of British-Irish conflicts, BREAKFAST ON PLUTO is an "enchanting, poignant, picaresque" (Michael Koresky, Interview Magazine) film from Oscar®-winning director Neil Jordan (1993, The Crying Game, Best Writing; The End of an Affair) that stars 2006 Golden Globe®-nominee Cilian Murphy (Batman Begins) and Oscar®-nominee Liam Neeson (1993 Best Actor, Schindler's List). Patrick "Kitten" Braden (Murphy) is abandoned as a baby and left on the doorstep of Father Bernard (Neeson). From a very young age, Patrick realizes he is different from the other boys but steadfastly refuses to change. When he grows up, Patrick decides to go in search of his real mother, who now lives in London. Thus begins a touching and funny journey that will lead him to the most unexpected place of all. "Neil Jordan's colorful yarn...a wonderful roiling comedy...celebrates the power of the imagination" (Stephen Holden, The New York Times).

Amazing cast. Nice brusque pacing. This movie can make you cry and laugh at the same scene. Patrick "St. Kitten" Braden is Candide in heels: A ray of optimistic light in a tumultuous time and place. Has humor and a lot of music but is NOT a comedy or a musical (thankyouverymuchGoldenGlobes). Probably not for the kiddies, due to violence and cursing, but I've recommended this to straight men and women, as well as gay men and women and it's liked by all. Don't let the bright and tacky cover design throw you off. This is a wonderful film. And while Kitten may not approve of this assessment, Breakfast on Pluto is 'Oh so serious.' (Keep an eye open for a cameo from Pat McCabe -author of the book- as Kitten's exasperated teacher, early-ish in the film.)
  • Not for everyone, but a great movie none the less

I love this movie. That said, the subject matter and style of the film may not appeal to a more mainstream audiance. Cillian Murphy's performance is amazing, both sympathetic and hilarious. Like the book, the nonlinear story telling and Kitten's own unreliable narration can be hard to decipher, but for me, this made the movie more rewatchable because I always find new interesting details with each viewing. If you liked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MInd, you will probably love this movie.
  • My Favourite Movie!

By im sorry, i cant think of one
I'm a big Cillian Murphy fan, he's an amazing actor, and this movie is probably one of his best roles. This is the best bildungsroman I've ever seen and the plot is so original, it's like not like so much of the Hollywood crap we get so much of. Normally I dont like buying movies because I can't watch them more than a few times before getting bored but "Breakfast on Pluto"''s way worth it. I think even if you disapprove of cross dressing, you can still like this movie. It's really sweet and has a great cast. I really reccomend this movie to everyone. It's like def in my top five movie!
