Description

Two icons of children's television are pitted against one another in this satirical dark comedy! Rainbow Randolph (Oscar-winner Robin Williams "A.I.," "Bicentennial Man"), the corrupt, costumed star of a popular children's TV show, is fired over a bribery scandal and replaced by squeaky-clean Smoochy (Oscar-nominated Edward Norton "The Score," "Fight Club"). As Smoochy catapults into fame, and scores the affections of a jaded network executive (Oscar-nominated Catherine Keener "Being John Malkovich," "Out of Sight"), he becomes the unsuspecting target of Randolph and his numerous and outrageous attempts to exact revenge and reclaim his status as America's sweetheart! Starring Oscar-nominated Danny DeVito ("Heist," "L.A. Confidential"), who also directed, Emmy-winner Jon Stewart (TV's "The Daily Show") and Emmy-nominated Harvey Fierstein (TV's "Double Platinum," "Independence Day").

This movie is insanely funny! Robin Williams is raw R rated and holds nothing back. It is a different side of Williams from his kid movies. Ed Norton is an incredible brilliant actor and he does not fail! It is a huge change for him from his serious drama but he is funny. Smoochy the Rhino is a cute funny character that refuses to sell out even when death faces him. I encourage you to rent it and be the judge for yourself. Just be warned, it is definitely not for children!

This movie is brilliant. I get so sick of the same old regurgitated concepts so many "comedies" subject their audiences to. The only people that won't find this funny are those that DO find Dane Cook and Will Ferrel funny. Death to Smoochy is for those that are, to put it delicately, more cerebral than the average joe.

Death to Smoochy is one of the most unappreciated comedies of the last decade. When released, people hailed it to be absolutely god-awful. It topped Roger Ebert's list of the worst movies of 2002. It fell way under the radar, frequently aired on Comedy Central and then finally disappeared. Almost everyone involved in the production of this is ashamed for having released it. But why all the hate? Yes, this is a rather bizarre concept for a dark comedy and it changes the way you look at children's TV ever again. But more that often, its hilarious. Robin Williams delivers possibly his greatest performance as Randolph Smiley. He manages to capture a man whose bitter hatred grows to the point of insanity. Robin plays crazy in every comedy he does, why not actually make him actually crazy. Edward Norton is as charming as ever, especially when he's in that dopey purple rhino suit. Its a fine movie and I think a lot of people should give it a try.

This is hands down the worst movie I have ever seen. The first words that come to mind are inane, senseless and insipid. Just when you thought the misery was over, it keeps going. This was a complete waste of time and money. I should be compensated for pain and suffering for having to sit through it.
