Description

It's a new night for terror - and a new dawn in horror movie-making when special-effects genius Tom Savini (creator of the spectacularly gruesome make-up in Friday the 13th and Creepshow) brings modern technology to this colorful remake of George A. Romero's 1968 cult classic. Seven strangers are trapped in an isolated farmhouse while cannibalistic zombies - awakened from death by the return of a radioactive space probe - wage a relentless attack, killing (and eating) everyone in their path. The classic for the 90s: graphic, gruesome and more terrifying than ever!

Actually, I do like this film. Take it on its own and its a rather fine version. I much prefer Barbara as a kick-butt take charge girl as opposed to the doped out space cadet in the original - although the original Barbara is really believable - seriously, some people would just shut down if the dead got up and started snacking on the rest of us. Watching Cooper and Ben allow their egos to basically wreck everything is cool too, and also believable. Face it, we would all freak out if this started out of the blue. The original - you know, the REAL, Dawn of the Dead is still the best of the bunch. A sad, but true, tale of who we really may be that is even truer today than when it was shot in 1978. Do not watch the remake - crap with Zombies who could compete in the 100 meters at the Olympics. Note to filmmakers - its not their cleverness or speed that make zombies so scary - its the fact they kept on coming by the thousands and may just be behind the next corner waiting for you. Is that so hard to get. Running zombies - what a joke. Cheers, The Whispering Squah

Many people are knocking this movie because its a Re-make, now I am not a big supporter of the re-make movement as it is today, I cant deny the fact that I enjoy this movie. Sure it isn't the same movie as the Romero classic but its not really supposed to be, much like John Carpenter's version of The Thing is a far cry from the classic. True underlying alligory is not there you gotta realize that most of the stuff that Romero was hinting at when he made the original, those issues werent as applicable in the middle 90s. Also this wasnt some hack deciding to make a remake so he can cash in on someone elses idea, Tom Savini (the director) owed his start to Romero, he did the make-up in Dawn of the Dead. Also this wasnt some guy that just stole it from the creator, Heck not only did Romero give him his blessing to direct, Romero produced and wrote the screenplay for the remake. For a Romero Zombie Movie (since he wrote the screenplay) it is definately not his best, but then again it surely isnt his worst, (I would give Survival of the Dead that most dubious honor). The pacing, camera work, lighting and sound effects are all good. the makup and effects are very good for the time and still holds up pretty well today. In short if you are looking for a movie that has all the whitty subtext and illusions to current (as of that time) political and civil issues then you are gonna be let down. If you are in the mood for a good zombie film thats fairly straightforward then this one might just be worth watching.

The original 1966 Night of the Living Dead is a landmark in horror films because it made zombies popular and started the career of George Romero. The original film had such a great character study and good story for such a low budget. This remake tells the same story, but with some added updates to it. The settings are the same [even the house is the same!!!]. Even though I think the original is superior, I do have to admit that this a good remake. I suggest you check it out sometime.
