It’s a shame that this movie has been so overlooked. It’s a interested hybrid of noir, martial arts, and westerns with a lead character committed to personal integrity even when his back is against the wall. This relatively small-scale movie builds in intensity with every plot point before delivering the goods in a truly satisfying finale.

There's not much more to say then what my title says. This is an above average movie with what I consider to be one of the GREATEST ENDINGS OF ALL TIME. I'm not over exaggerating about the ending either. I found it to be one of those rare hard to breather moments. Very powerful .

I thought it was great but a little more action would have benn even better.

There have been great leaders that have graced this planet. Thank you for giving your best at all costs. I hope we can all care a little more about what we do. Love and respect to the real.

incredible movie .... one everyone should watch with an open mind . ..... there was no special affects no ... flash bang ..... JUST A SENCE OF WHAT IS RIGHT

Great film - well written amd well acted

This opinion is biased so you should know that from the get-go. In my opinion David Mamet can do virtually no wrong, especially when he's directing his own script. So this review only reinforces my respect and appreciation for the work. And, as it happens, Chiwetel Ejiofor is one of my favorite actors. The man can do anything and be completely believable - and I do mean *anything*. He's done spy, businessman, tech geek, assassin, scientist, and one of the true tests of acting ability - transvestite - naturally and with no doubts. Why Hollywood hasn't completely figured this out is a minor mystery. In this particular role, he portrays a warrior following the Bushido Way - a life of ascetic anonymity and hard times but a pure focus that follows The Path. A warrior whose life drastically alters with a chance meeting that eventually sends him careening toward a dramatic showdown with those that threaten to steal his dreams and his very soul. Sorry for the poetic, but it's more truthful than: A jiu jitsu master who gets conned into a fight. There's soooo much more. And fans of Mamet - you know what I'm saying. And if you're not a fan - watch any of his films. He is our generation's Orson Welles. And just like Welles, will likely become 'legendary' after the bandwagon jumpers have piled on after his death. Be a frontrunner and see what great filmmaking can and should be.

This movie is fluent parabell of how not to run a life dedicated to serving others in the martial arts community. From Police officers that are not in retention of thier weapons, to a teacher that retrumatizes his students to make them react instead of act, and whole host of characters that seem drop thier common sense at the drop of a hat. The audience is needlessly funnelled into a belief that just fighting can solve a problem instead common sense and redirecting a problem instead of letting it escalate. I lost count of how many times the "Teacher" is at a complete loss to implement to values he so dispences in a humble arrogance that is basicaly trite and not at all what a good martial life is. If you like MMA (which this move is, good, you"ll get entertainment) if want martial arts for better off reading a book and practicing some yoga.

I have practiced martial arts for over 10 years and by chance, I was flipping through the cable channels and stopped when I saw "Redbelt". I had never heard of it so I planned to watch it for a few minutes and change the channel soon after; however, the balance of martial art principles, respect, self-defense and an interesting story kept me watching the movie minute by minute until I ended up watching the entire movie. This is a very well-balanced movie and I enjoyed watching it so much that I found it on iTunes and downloaded it so I can watch it again and store it as a true respectable martial arts movie.

Realistic. Great martial arts, great message. Loved it. A lot of people don't like this movie but I think that's cause they're expecting the standard Hollywood storytelling. This movie is reallistic. Realistic fights, dialog, charecters. Some people are just so used to the reagular Hollywood drible that they feel it's "anti-clamactic" or that the fight scenes are no fun because there aren't any wires or inhuman feats of strength. Sad.
