Description

Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese, Michael Palin and Academy Award winner Kevin Kline follow their smash hit A Fish Called Wanda with another hilarious farce which Jeffrey Lyons of WNBC-TV, New York, calls "a very funny picture." A quaint English zoo is the setting for a riotous revolt after the zoo director attempts to rid the park of its cute, cuddly animals and display only "fierce creatures."

This movie is one of my all-time favorites. Kevin Klein is at his best in his dual roles. Jon Cleese is hilarious as usual. Jamie Lee Curtis is terrific. The farcical plot is silly but fall-over funny. Tired of dystopia? Take the night off with this sure-fire hit.

Cleese, Curtis, and Co. are up to their usual great standards. Some people did not like this because it came after the better known "A Fish Called Wanda" - but wasn't the "Wanda - Part Deux" they expected and / or wanted - although there were some similarities - an uptight English legal twit (Cleese, in this film playing a former Hong Kong cop) meets sexy woman (Curtis) who has an eye for him, but has an idiot suitor (again Kevin Kline) who she wants to ditch for Cleese - who must choose between his love for her and the zoo they co-manage, and a career with a mega-corporation run by an utterly ruthless magnate (modeled on Rupert Murdoch, also played by Kline). In one of theclosing scenes, they even give a nod to the last film in a scene where Cleese and Curtis are engaged in heavy snogging, and when they come up for air, he says, "I love you Wanda!" and then says "...Willa!" (Curtis' character name.) Overall, a great romp with a number of painfully funny misunderstandings, screw-ups, and a bit of a surprise ending. Along the way, Cleese and his usual gang (Palin et al) of former Pythoners register a great, if whacked-out, performance, with complications surpassing the famous "Fawlty Towers" for insane situations which in turn engender even more insanity. The animals are also great, with zany lemurs, contemplative gorillas, and many other creatures "great and small" who would steal the show, if the stars weren't as good as they are.
  • Exceptional Humor! Can't Believe I Missed this Movie When Originally Came Out!

The comedic genious shown in the writing & cast members/ensemble astounded me! I never heard of this movie, purchased on a whim since actors were not well known to me & have watched it half a dozen times since purchase & laughed harder each time. The scenes between the animals & John Cleese are hysterical - the entire premise of the movie is great & the ABSOLUTELY UNEXPECTED twist at the end, funnier than most things I've ever seen. Between the verbal jokes & the FANTASTIC use of body language/double entendre slips of the tongue, and plot twists, everything is FRESH and UNEXPECTED, which is what makes comedy FUNNY! This movie is a treat!

This movie is little known but one of my favorites. You have to watch it more than once to pick up on the very subtle humor. Kevin Klein is really funny as TWO different characters, as is John Cleese as the befuddled pompous zoo director. A+
