Big, splashy production that doesn't take itself too seriously while still dishing up tons of action and suspense. Very well-acted with likeable characters, and the scenery (mostly northern NM) is breathtaking. Lots of belly laughs throughout to lighten the mood. Kevin Costner is hysterically funny, and John Cleese and Jeff Goldblum add to the humor. But in spite of all the humor, this isn't a comedy. It's a very strong portrayal of the battles between westbound settlers and the cattle barons who sought to keep millions of acres of land for themselves. I recommend Silverado without hesitation.

This cast of characters give us so many memorable lines! This more modern day western (yes, I know this movie wasn't made yesterday), has believable characters, good plot and even I wanted to shoot the sheriff by the time Kevin Kline's character did..watch this movie lots of time and probably will watch it hundreds more times! Pop some popcorn and enjoy!

The Kasdan brothers made a tribute to the awesome movies, with their larger than life views, directors and stories, and punched it up with a Coplandesque score, decent casting (Goldblum is a favorite actor but miscast here) flat out gorgeous and artistic cinematography and location choices...all they needed was to run the wagon train through Monument Valley and you'd think you were watching John Ford's work. Mostly appropriate for young audiences, Silverado is a classic popcorn shoot 'em up flick. And you'll love how young these actors all look 25 years later. Do not miss.

I cannot even remember how many times I've watched this movie! I love it! (No, I have nothing to gain by writing a good review.) The characters are great - good vs evil in the Old West. The scenery is beautiful, too. In many ways, this is a combination of all the elements of several good westerns. I think Kasden did a good job directing Silverado and kept it from being bogged down with cliches. The actors (most of them) are outstanding as well: Kevin Kline, Linda Hunt, Brian Dennehy, a young Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, Lynn Whitfield, Jeff Goldblum, John Cleese - all good choices. I'm not a fan of Ms. Arquette, but the character is well-suited tot he story; same with Jeff Fahey. All around, one of my favorite Westerns.
