Gary Oldman gives a superb performance, as well as the great Dutchman Jeroen Krabbe! The settings are amazing, plus, how could you ask for a better soundtrack ? So underrated and highly recommended ! Beethoven is still the greatest composer of all time !

Gary Oldman helped the writer develop, explain and show us the viewers, just how pure love can be, This truly is a story about how the title of this movie really is ... "Immortal Beloved". If you enjoy classical music combined with a mystic love story which is happy and depressing. You shall enjoy this.

Awesome weather you love beethoven or dont know who he is. Gary oldman portrays him perfectly. But the plot (looking for the immortal beloved and finding her to be johanna) is sort of far fetched. The fact is that he did absolutely hate johanna and had no feelings for her whatsoever.

A movie made for Beethoven's admirers. Though a bit romanticized, this movie certainly captures both the Maestro's unimaginably beautiful soul and the complex personality his friends and family couldn't understand or tolerate. His genius made him beloved by all the world and hated by everyone he met. "He gave us so much. We couldn't even make his life tolerable." - Anton Schindler

One of the best biopics on Beethoven, or any composer (Mozart excluded) that I have seen. Gary Oldman portrays every aspect of the man with stunning realism. The mystery woman's final revelation at the end, while a bit predictable given the clues, still gave the movie a most satisfying conclusion.

This is the film that made me fall in love with Gary Oldman (and at the time I was only 13). If you miss this and you are a avid fan of Gary's work, I suggest you watch it. You would be doing yourself a great injustice if you didn't. He gives a intense, passionate and thought-provoking peformance. Gary has always had what I call 'staying power' and he always delivers. Also, if you want to go 'old' school and watch 'Sid & Nancy'. Damn, this man is still sexy!

I was assigned to view this movie for my Music Appreciation course, and I have to say I just watched it twice in one sitting, it is remarkable! I was expecting a dull year by year story but what I got was a jaw dropping insight into the life of a genius. His music came to life in this film...Words can not express how much I appreciate his work now...It's a must see film!
