Description

When college students Sam (Maya Stange) and Thea (Kathleen Robertson) meet Coles (Mark Ruffalo) at a party, their attraction is immediate and leads to a passionate, awkward night...and an intensely charged bond. As they continue to push sexual boundaries, they are tested by Sam and Coles' incipient romance and Thea's increasing recklessness until the relationship dissolves into a cloud of fear, resentment, and mistrust. 8 years later, they reunite. An animator at a high-profile ad shop, Coles now lives with Claire, his girlfriend of five years. Thea is happily married to Miles, with whom she owns a flourishing restaurant, and Sam has just returned to NYC after breaking off an engagement in London. Yet upon reconnecting, the three are drawn back into the complicated dynamic that defined their relationship and are forced to confront the true meaning of commitment and love.

I think the movie is a good story, showing that we make mistakes but eventually we all grow up, and stick with our responsibilities..too many movies now make it seem like its the right thing to do to just abandon or leave for spouse for ur once lust fling, but thats not reality and its not the right thing to do, it may seem romantic, but its far from it, so many people want a romeo & Juliet love but they dont stop to realize that its called the tragedy of romeo and juliet, and that they were 13 years old and end their lives, who really wants a love like that...seriously...this is a good story cause it shows the real side of whats right

Although not a typical movie I would watch, this film surprised me tremendously with the amount of symbolism and ideas of love intertwined into the story. This film shows the different aspects of revenge, love, and settling and leaves the viewer with an unsatisfied ending. Even with this questionable ending, the film in some ways helps us restore our faith in love, because Chick allows to insert our own ideas of what love is and decide for ourselves how the movie truly concludes. Claire makes such a powerful statement about making choices and it opens the doors to finding what love should essentially be and feel like; is it purely physical, or is it about the real emotional commitment? Is there a difference between love and being IN love? XX/XY is a great film to watch if one is trying to form concepts about life, love and happiness.

Not horrid, interesting enough story about 3 friends & the consequences of their choices. Mark Ruffalo is great to look at during the "present day" scenes...but I was truly disturbed by his mustache in the college flashbacks- was it supposed to be '93 or '73??
