Description

Academy Award-winner Tommy Lee Jones ("The Fugitive," "The Client") stars as baseball legend Ty Cobb. A sportswriter is contacted by Cobb to write a white-washed version of his life story but, after discovering the dark and scandalous truth behind the legend, he must decide whether to write the real story or maintain the myth. Co-starring Robert Wuhl ("Good Morning, Vietnam," "Bull Durham") and Lolita Davidovich ("JFK," "Leap of Faith") and written by Ron Shelton ("Bull Durham," "White Men Can"t Jump"). The Hollywood Reporter calls this a "sharp-breaking and crackling film" with a "terrific" performance by Tommy Lee Jones.

I remember seeing this in the navy. I thought it was great.
  • Great acting, but poor script and directing

The majority of this movie is spent showing us how horrible Cobb was. This is realized in the first 15 minutes of the movie. My thoughts at the end of the movie, "why this movie was ever made is beyond me."

Ty Cobb was a complete jerk and possibly a psychopath. That's about all you get from this movie. Don't rent this hoping to get any baseball insight. It's about the last months of Cobb's life. It moves slow, and in the end I still don't know what point the movie was trying to make. If you are interested in Cobb, the man, this movie is for you. If you are interested in Cobb, the ball player, you can skip.

The movie did a fine job, just like Bird Man Of Alcatraz did. One thing they didnt do is show the REAL dark side of Ty He was a terrible man in the end. Rich, Talented, but crazy. I think it was a great movie with that showed some realistic dialog, especially between Ty and his driver. This is a baseball movie to say the least. Only watch it if you have played the game. If you havent played the game, rent Field of Dreams.
  • Pure Acting by a Master

There is not a ton of baseball in this movie. They do talk baseball which I like but the acting by Jones is just powerfull. I last saw this movie 10 years ago and am downloading it now for my Ipod. I cannot wait to watch it a few times here soon.
