CSA: Confederate States of America

This movie made the south seem as if they were the ones going for slavery. when in fact, they werent. the south freed their slaves before the north did. other than that there were countless wrongly depictions of the south. but hey, we live in modern america, a place where history was written to shame anyone with morals. so i guess it had to be made this way

What I don’t get is that Apple Takes down Ultimate General, a game which had a scenario related to the Civil War, because it showed the CSA battle flag. This MOVIE cover shows it all over the place, but Apple doesn’t take this down? For the record, I have no problem with the CSA Battle Flag, but note the hypocrisy Apple is showing in this matter and hope others point it out too.

I grew up in the Jim Crow days with my dad in the Klan and can relate well to this. This movie is just funny as can be in some areas not too far off what would have been. Taken as humor as intended, the movie is very enjoyable.

I just don't like 'what if' movies. And, Spike Lee, while brilliant in his movie making, has an underlying agenda of perpetuating racism at it's lowest level.. He could be doing something better, but he chooses to be incitiful.

There will be another revolution and these Yankee trash will understand how outclassed they have always been.

I am very offended that this bull would even be under the Black History section. The producers and everyone else that has the nerve to think this is anything less than trash, should have their head examined! This is offensive and very degrading to anyone from the south! And this is money that should have been used to educate u dummies that still feel this way! This slavery crap will never happen again believe that!

Interesting idea for a movie,altertive history is very facinating.Many partsare funny,sick or both.The format was great and looked like were watching a real TV documentery.But I don't recomend watching it if you are black or southern.

This was a wonderful parody of American history, done in a smart, watchable, and absolutely captivating way. It moves seemlessly between laugh out loud silliness (The Slave Shopping Network), to some very well put together pieces of archival footage. Yes, the film takes huge liberties with American history, and it shouldn't be taken as fact, or anything approximating fact, but that's not really what it's trying to do. The film is brash and uncensored in its parodies of blacks, as well as whites. You'll find yourself laughing while thinking "wow, I shouldn't be laughing at that." Then in the next moment you'll find yourself thinking seriously about slavery and what equality means. For those people who believe that this film is just a slam against the South, I'll remind them that there's a pretty jarring sequence wherein black African leaders are portrayed as complicit in the slave trade, shipping fellow blacks to the CSA. A final note, I think this film is a wonderful springboard for people to then go and open a book and learn about American history. Watch this, then go do your own research, and come to your own conclusions about race relations today, and throughout America's history. We could all learn a lot.

Having seen this movie on IFC before buying it myself, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I was blown out of the water- and with gusto. Spike Lee hits home with a phenominal and very intelligent film presenting a plausible - if not realistic- alternative view of history had the Confederate States won the Civil War. With references to many items that were (Until recent history) part of everyday life, we see how racism and bias have not changed- despite the outcome of the Civil War. What is amazing to me is to see what we would consider today to be silly or completely out of place items, however, Spike Lee shows historical details in the end credits noting how real these relations in the film could be. Credits are given to many products that used racist references- well into the 70s and 80s.. and beyond. The format of the film keeps your attention- complete with 'commercial' breaks built in that feature what seem to be made up items, but as we learn, are actual products used in the past. For parents, this is a great way to educate teens on the potential for history to have been very different for the USA. It is a good way to introduce the dangers of racism- as interpreted by Spike Lee.
