Description

Directed by Arthur Hiller, this intensely provocative drama will forever change the way you look at modern medicine. Dr. Bock's (Scott) life is in shambles. His wife has left him, his children don't talk to him and his once beloved teaching hospital is falling apart. As he teeters on the brink of a nervous breakdown, Brock falls for a patient's seductively charming daughter (Diana Rigg) who not only gives him something to live for but might even change his life forever.

A great film filled with excellent performances by George C Scott, Diana Rigg, Barnard Hughes, Stephen Elliot, and a talented supporting cast. Brilliant writing and direction help make this a film worth watching. I just don't see it has a comedy unless of errors.

Concentrated version of many situations I experienced in nearly 30 years of nursing--pretty darn accurate, unfortunately, right down to the emotional distress at the realization of rampant incompetence. Dr Bock's explosive, drunken tirade used words similar to ones spoken by myself at one point(the part about Drs not healing anyone). Now THAT was spooky! Great film. Great portrayal of reality. Only the equipment has changed in the hospitals since the film was made. The basic premise remains. Basically, people do care and have integrity, as Bock showed at the end.

This movie is awesome. I'm so happy that it's on iTunes. This is one of the first movies that didn't glammorize the work of doctors, and the movie is satrialistic as well. It's a very important film as well to cinema history. George C. Scott is stupendous. A great, great movie.
