Still amazing, even today. A movie ahead of its time. Shatner is amazing.

It does contain the Directors Cut which is better than the original. What a steal to get all of the Star Trek movies in a bundle for $20!!!
  • The most Star Trek like movie of them all

To address those previous reviews about this not being The DIrector's Edition, the iTunes Extras includes The DIrector's Edition. However, it appears that it is in Standard Definition and not HD as Paramount never made that conversion. That isn't Apple's fault. On the one hand I get why people complain about this movie. It's not high-energy, it's not action oriented. It's not a space opera like Star Wars is (which I also love). But anyone who is a fan of The Original Series will recognize this as fitting perfectly in step with the TV show. The plot, the pace, it is a natural extension of TOS. If you look at it from that perspective, this movie and Wrath of Kahn and the best of the movie series with the original crew. IMHO the most overlooked part of this movie is the score. Jerry Goldsmith's score makes the movie. If it were available on iTunes I would buy the soundtrack in a heartbeat. People often credit John Williams with compsing the soundtrack of their lives. I agree. But for me, that soundtrack is incomplete without Jerry. Alien, Poltergeist, The Secret of NIHM, First Blood and Rambo movies, Gremlins 1 & 2, Innerspace, Total Recal, Star Trek movies and TV shows, Air Force One, US Marshals, Mulan, so many movies. Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a great sci fi movie in the truest sence of the style with one of the best soundtracks of all time.

A bunch of mumbo jumble that only makes sense after googling it a million times. Don't waste your time.

First of all, all the reviews that say this is a crappy edition because it isn't the director's cut - the director's cut is actually included in this. It's one of the extra features. It's just that it has both versions, instead of one or the other. It's got a bunch of other really great features and interviews too. The movie itself is one of my favourites, it's really cerebral, and really beautiful in scope. That said I've never seen the non-director's edition which seems to be the version that people hate so much. In any case, highly recocmend just watching the director's edition (which, again, this *does* include).

ST: Motion Picture is a good movie. Idk what rotten tomatoes or critics are talking about. It's great seeing Star Trek reload itself again after the shows cancellation. Not the best Star Trek but it's a good movie worth your time even if it's too space oriented. 7.2/10
  • Good - until the end

This is classic Star Trek - until the ending which is very hokey and implausible
  • Just can't beat the originals

I can't wait to watch the director's cut based on the reviews. The original is great, especially for us who grew up watching the series. Don't know why I waited so long to buy this.

They've put out the original theatrical version and the Director's Cut, but where is the Special Longer Version that most of us remember being released on video in the 80s. That's the version I grew up with and I'd love to see that put out on iTunes (that would truly complete the collection!).
