This film doesn't deserve the hate. Better than most musicals today! Gotta love the chemistry between Shelley and Robin; never gets old.

This is even worse than Moscow on the Hudson. Popeye is One of the dumbest movies ever made, It never made sense, not then not ever. From a genius who instead of facing the problems and go to heaven, decides to kill himself to go to hell. Pathetic.

  • The Classic Musical Comedy

This film is easily as old as I am, and it’s been a classic in our house as far back as I can remember. A live action cartoon is the best way to describe it, and for once, Robin Williams isn’t carrying that tone all by himself (as expected of his now famous style, he’s subtle and over the top right when he needs to be). Every member of the cast is tumbling and bouncing through musical numbers that come and go as easily as the wind. The physical comedy absolutely sells the premise of cartoon physics from the moment Popeye lands in Sweet Haven, yet it never feels unreal. If someone told me it was choreographed by Buster Keaton, I wouldn’t have been surprised. The jokes come fast and frequently, but they still managed to find room for moments of genuine heart, and everyone embodies the character they’re playing perfectly. Even now, I can’t deny what I’m seeing. I’ll always have a soft spot for this film.

Robert Altman’s absolute worst. I wouldn’t want this this movie even for 99 cents.
