Description

As 'The Chosen One', Murphy's on a madcap mission to save The Golden Child, a youth with mystical powers who's been abducted by an evil cult. He battles a band of super-nasties, scrambles through a booby-trapped chamber of horrors and traverses Tibet to obtain a sacred dagger. But it's Murphy's wit that turns out to be his sharpest weapon in this 24-karat comedy adventure.

This is a good movie, whether or not you are an Eddie Murphy fan. It has plenty of jokes and adventure to keep you watching. Although I'm not such a fan of the claymation-demon thing near the end...

Murphy seems to be doing a "supernatural" reprise of Beverly Hills Cop - something like "Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee Meet Eddie Murphy in "Enter the Kung Fu Panda" or some such. (Hmmm... with modern digital re-mixing and CG capabilities, possibly not as far-fetched as I thought at first...). Eddie's typical smart-a*s street-wise style seems a bit strained, and out of synch with the plot - which requires a major suspension of disbelief and an unhealthy dose of salt in the first place, and which still leaves a lot of loose ends, incongruities, and much to be desired. The stunt work is pretty good, as are some of the CG effects (though dated). I more or less enjoyed it, because I like Murphy, and the program was more or less emtertaining (although slow in spots), but nothing I would be likely to watch a second time - that said, I could recommend it for those who like action-martial arts-magical fantasy genre, with a little bit of street-wise comedy thrown in.

This is one of those that slipped through, without being noticed. Definitely one of Eddie's best movies because his humor moves with the story and the movie makes his funniness funnier. There are some lines that will stick with you for EVER and EVER. I first saw this at the movie theater and have been reciting ever since "Look- A BED, Is that a bed?" It's "Good and Evil" vs "Beverly Hills Cop"... Great Great very funny movie

I really enjoy watching this movie; the older it gets, the more classic it becomes. Eddie Murphy makes a real and comedic hero in a fantastic story. Thanks iTunes!

This movie never ceases to be funny to me. I think this is one of Eddie Murphy's most genuinely entertaining films. There is not too much nonsense and it shows his classic comdey with genuine acting as well, like Beverly Hills Cop. One of my favorites from him.
  • Classic Murphy

I am not a huge fan of Eddie Murphy, but I do enjoy this movie. The Nutty Professor and Norbit do not give him any credit, but his older films truly are the best. The Golden Child is just another iteration of his Beverly Hills Cop image of the last century. Trite, yet funny one-liners and commonplace action just make this movie more of what it is... Classic Eddie Murphy. (Now bring on Raw!)
  • I-I-I-I-I want the kniiiife, pleeease. (Watch and you will find out why)

An absolute classic. Those who give this poor reviews are insane. This movie was funny and worth the $$. Eddie Murphy is a gem. A relatively clean movie for preteens who are bored with the G movies.

I am sorry to see so many negative reviews on this movie as well as futher bad comments regarding Eddie Murphy. This as well as his past and current movies are all classics indeed. He has given a level boost to the African-American actors/actresses in Hollywood. I am excited to see this movie offered through Itunes. I would definitely like to see more of his movies as well as Martin Lawrence's films added in the near future. For those of you who simply don't care for Eddie Murphy, just don't purchase the movie. Otherwise, its hilarious and a classic.
