Description

A stylish reinvention of the 1960's classic, "Alfie", this film is a humorous, sexy and often touching tale of a philosophical womanizer who is forced to question his seemingly carefree existence. For Alfie (Jude Law), life was about enjoying everything women could offer - one night at a time. From wealthy widows with a taste for younger men (Susan Sarandon) to his single-mum girlfriend (Marisa Tomei), Alfie had it all… and wasn’t looking for anything more. But when the consequences of his playboy lifestyle suddenly affect the women in his life and his best friend (Omar Epps), Alfie begins to wonder if there is more to life than these fleeting romances. And if so, what’s it all about?

It's a different movie, really, than the Michael Caine "version" and while it's very stylish, it's also modern in tone.

I loved this movie ! I think that some parts were not significant to the story but it is entertaining and delivers the message.

I thought this was a particularly good movie. Jude Law does an especially masterful job with this rather naive if charming character, demonstrating acting maturity far beyond his years. And very few women who look as good as Sienna MIller does can really act. Highly recommended.
  • Worth Watching...But Hardly Profound

Entertaining film...nothing too profound by any stretch. I get the feeling the writers read Brett Easton Ellis' "Glamorama." The shallow 'himbo' puting around on the scooter bedding down anything with legs and lying like crazy to cover it up was just too much of a coincidence. I didn't see the original 'Alfie'; but, I am guessing Michael K. wasn't putting around on a moped. That idea had to come from somewhere. If you want to rock the viewer's world...don't borrow...make the Glamorama movie. Now THAT would be something. Based on the comparison, I am bumping this back to a three-star rating. All things considered, the story is a bit banal. I mean...really...other than sex, sex, sex, lie, lie, lie...what was so provocative about Alfie Walfie?? I THINk that was the point, right? He was supposed to be an interesting person because he was so devoid of morals due to being entrenched in a world of hedonism. Honestly, he came off as a bit of a dufus.

I saw this in the theatre and it was good. I laughed at the funny parts in the movie and at the same time it was a sad movie. I left the theatre feeling sad for the main character. I know several guys like Alfie and it's kinda sad to see how they end up. Definately a Cautionary tale for all!!!

this may be a remake but it is still extremely entertaining. The plot is well fashioned and alfie's struggles, external and internal, are well exposed. Fun to watch
