Trevor, a college literature professor, has recently and suddenly lost his sight due to complications from an illness. A single dad to his daughter Annie, Trevor is badly shaken and barely hanging on, and the fact that the construction at his college poses everyday dangers for him is an added complication – one that is making the head of his department pressure him to take a leave until he sorts things out. Concerned for her dad, Annie decides that a guide dog would help him enormously, so she convinces her dad to get a dog from Peyton, who heads The Faithful Eye, which trains dogs for the vision impaired. As Peyton trains Trevor with his new dog Max, the two bond closely, and Peyton helps Trevor regain his old self-confidence. And when Trevor is forced to take leave from his department, his students rally around him, refusing to take class unless he is their professor.
