A paranoid man (Joaquin Phoenix) embarks on an odyssey to get home to his mother (Patti LuPone) in this bold and ingeniously depraved film from writer-director Ari Aster (Midsommar, Hereditary), a darkly funny epic and elemental nightmare.

Dont Waste your time

This movie is sick and disgusting. Its no wonder why Hollywood has become a has-been.
Different cinematography

This “version” is 3x darker than the theatrical version. No doubt they thought a literal “darker tone” would make people more “scared”… even though this director is known for doing horror films in daylight (midsommer)..
So so bad

Not for everyone. A surreal nightmarescape of Freudian psychology for the agoraphobic and enmeshed child. Horror at its most human. I’ve not loved any film this much in over a decade.
Ari Aster’s best film to date.

So, it took me approximately 3 tries and a few gummies to fully get through this movie lol.
Yes, it’s visually stunning and overall eerie which is what the directors vibe is, but it also is ALL over the place and the storyline doesn’t quite land, in my opinion. Functionally it’s a work of art, but in general if I had to decide if I’d view this again, the answer would be no. I’m sure part of it is the issue is the absurd length of nearly 3 hours. Just a bit too much.
Biggest pro: J. Phoenix did great acting in it

Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride.

Crazy, disturbing, weird, surreal fairy tale about a stunted man. Invest the time to see this. How to explain it? Kubrick and Freud take acid with The Muppets. This movie is its own genre. Great performances and casting too.

It’s obvious an attempt to make something without thread feel like it has a meaning…

No comparison two his other two horror hits. Don’t even know if I’d call this horror. Has some funny parts. Not laugh out loud funny tho. Just a weird, long movie.
B Movie

This movie was unbelievably below all my expectations. The film uses the concept of metaphors coming to life and it does so in a childesh and remarkibly simplistic way. The writer is clearly desperate to shock the audience with scenes that are filled with blood, psychotic characters, and/or a metally disturbed lead that is trying to understand his life. This is not a box office hit and is not worth your time or money. PARENTS do not let your kids watch this film as it is full of disturbing concepts of blood, mayhem, dark and stupid psychological twists and illogical scene intended to shock.
