Description

From Damien Chazelle, BABYLON is an original epic set in 1920s Los Angeles led by Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Diego Calva, with an ensemble cast including Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li and Jean Smart. A tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, it traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood.

This movie is long and bad. Please play with your kids, paint a self portrait, or do something else meaningful for you because this movie is a 3 hr plus waste of time. Please don’t let the sacrifice of my time be in vain. Heed my warning about the loss of my precious time on this blue marble. I implore you to spend three hours doing something enjoyable because this film isn’t.

I had high hopes because I love the subject matter. But once the elephant defecates on a man with 5 minutes followed by a graphic golden shower, I knew this movie was trash. The only scene worth watching is the studio first using sound recording. That’s brilliant. Everything else was disgusting and unnecessary.

Babylon is different. A series of memorable, well acted scenes present different eras of early Hollywood that is summarized in a powerful scene with Jean Smart and Brad Pitt. What a scene and great writing! The entire cast has large dramatic range of emotions, especially Margot Robbie who is kind of a Harley Quinn meets a desperate Hollywood starlet. These scenes climax to a collage of iconic Hollywood history that was reminiscent of “Day of the Locust”. The movie doesn’t end, it explodes. I was captivated throughout.
