Description

An unprofessional film crew follows five amateur runners as they train for Devil’s Canyon Marathon, an offbeat desert race. Ryan O’Brien missed qualifying for last year’s Boston Marathon by nine seconds. This is his year. Or is it? A foot injury and a testy relationship with the cameraman may be his undoing. Jenna Kowalski is attempting to break the record for fastest marathon time dressed as a fruit, but a new relationship threatens to thwart her efforts. Abby Dozier tried to run a marathon last year, but a pregnancy threw a wrench (or baby) in her plans. Now with a year of motherhood under her belt, she’s ready to run again. Shareef Washington wants to finish a marathon to prove his bullying, triathlete sister wrong, but his own training is continually interrupted by overzealous cops suspicious of a Black male runner. Emilou Paunch quits roughly 30 seconds into her training. From there, all aspects of her life improve. Not running the marathon was the best decision Emilou ever made.

A fun must-watch mockumentary foot anyone that takes exercise too serious

“It’s easily one of the best mockumentaries in the last ten years, and earns a place in that blinding pantheon next to What We Do in the Shadows and This is Spinal Tap.” - Mario Dhingsa, Filmotomy

I enjoyed following the different personalities as they prep for the Devils Canyon Marathon. Tons of laugh out loud moments both in snappy dialogue and physical comedy. I identified with the “mom” character the most. Mostly because parenting is like a marathon that never ends.

Really funny mockumentary! Well written and funny actors. Good watch especially if you’re tired of the same cookie cutter content.

This mockumentary/movie goofs on everything related to the cult of running. Some people will definitely take issue with goofing on the positive effects of the Boston Bombing. A good variety of characters keep the story moving forward with a “happy ending” for some!
  • This movie is bananas! In the best of ways.

Mockumentary, anyone? Fans of the Christopher Guest genre should be running (get it?) to check this one out! It features a great group of performers, plus some fun writing and editing to really bring it all together. Jenna was my favorite to watch, though the whole cast is great. Other standouts include Shareef, Emilou, banana #3. The one thing I know is you’ll laugh, of that I am sure!

Marathon is a silly, tongue-in-cheek, Mockumentry about runners preparing for marathon through the desert. I laughed throughout the film and though I am partial, I truly enjoyed watching it and would recommend it for any looking for a lite comedy and a nice escape from the daily grind. Check it out!

Not only funny but very socially relevant as well. It’s one of those diamonds in the rough that come along just once in awhile. Bravo to the creator and some natural actors who made it come alive. 👍🏻
