Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I thought the movie was really good and the plot even better ! What do you not understand that their son has a tragic accident leaves behind a son which the mother meets a dead beat and is abusive ! The grandparents did what any grandparents would do ! Protect their grandson ! Kevin Costner is amazing and Ashley Judd he’ll of an actriz! Great movie slow at first but worth it!

This was a striking movie-beautiful to look at and heartbreaking to watch at the same time. The cast? WOW!!! Specifically the chemistry between Lane and Costner! I think they are a perfect match for the parts played in this movie. The quiet elegance, pride and strength they exude in this movie is spot on and is exactly what I think of when I think of the people living in the “old country” at that time. If you are looking for special effects and bling, this is not the movie for you. I think it takes some maturity to appreciate a movie like this and I think that this has to be where the poor reviews come from. I found myself watching the quiet moments between the two leads where body language said it all; where George was the typical rock solid man of few words but his actions and gestures screamed his intent. He in particular played his part so well. Honestly, every part was played by the cast expertly. I alternated between heartbroken and terrified throughout the whole movie. I absolutely loved it and recommend it if you are looking for something different, something that will engulf you and take you to another time for a little while. Easily and immediately a favorite. 10/10

There was not much happening in the movie but I felt the anticipation building up to the point that I was mostly at the edge of my seat the whole time. Kevin plays this quite man with such a devotion to his wife very well. But Diane Lane was a revelation. She is always a good actress but her role in this requires her to stretch her acting skills beyond her usual role. You can feel her pain and her joy just by looking at her eyes or gestures. A simple story, yet complex exploration of human behaviors. Highly recommended for people who likes a slow burning movie.

Great actors and so much hope for it, but it had such a sad and bad ending....

Not that great of movie; certainly not worth the $9.99 paid.
  • Not enough here for a movie

It takes waaaay to long to get where it’s going. It’s not the acting there’s just just not enough there.

Just another good film by Costner. The whole time I felt as if I were watching a home movie with a script. It felt so real and the hero is mortal.
  • Superb acting and good story line
