I wasn’t sure about renting after seeing some of these reviews. But I’m glad i did and would buy it. I have the original. Now I’m not going to compare them but i will say although a little cheesy and I’m not a big fan of the 80s i really enjoyed it enough to regret not just buying it instead of renting. I liked the characters and thought they did a good job on their own spin. I liked the music scenes too.

Yet another movie that did not need to be remade. The original is a classic counter culture movie. This is just...NOT.

Paid more for this more then the original to rent but was curious and I do love musicals. I think I blinked and missed Peyton List. I knew Jessica Rothe from Forever My Girl and Happy Death Day. It is very different. The older Julie is telling a story in this one and there’s an additional character Mae Whitman plays and so on. The original is still the best but this was alright.

Thank you for trying to revive my favorite generation/MY generation but...I had to FORCE myself to see 20 minutes of this OVERLY contrived film...it was trying too hard...over-acting, over-singing, over-plotting...my glorious/favorite 80’s songs were so poorly rendered...sad, sad, sad...😣

My fault as I didn’t read the reviews and know that it was more of a musical. Campy movie. No chemistry between the lead actors/actress I think they were going for this. Some of the original cast had Cameo’s. Wait until you can rent it for for $2.99. Watch Happy Death Day to Me PT 1 and 2 instead or the original Valley Girl.

Amazing songs, charming actors, a movie that knows exactly how to entertain, which was exactly what I was looking for. Glad I bought it, cause this one is going into my heavy rotation.
  • So much fun🙌🏻 Give it a chance!

This is an honest review about Valley Girl (2020). I’ll go ahead and say I’ve never seen the original movie. With that being said, I enjoyed this film thoroughly😄 Yes it’s a bit cheesy, and predictable at times, and some of the acting is not the greatest. Jessica Rothe was great as usual though, and so was Mae Whitman. As for the music, it includes an array of popular 80’s hits. Some of the singing is a bit, uh...especially in the beginning. However I loved the Aerobics Mashup, and the entire cast singing a symphonic version of David Bowie, and Queen’s “Under Pressure” before the prom was pretty genius, and it sounded good😆🎶 All in all, I thought this was an incredibly fun, nostalgic trip of a film🎉 It’s such an easy watch, and you may have fun too if you give it a chance🎬

I’ve never seen the original Valley Girl but I rented this because I love musicals, love the 80s and was curious to see how Jessica Rothe from Happy Death Day would perform in a musical. Lots of fun colors, cute 80s musical numbers, with silly and dumb dialogue. Sweet and fluffy and kind of dumb but I loved it. I only rented it but wish I spent the money to buy it. If you like musicals, you should check it out !
