Description

On the surface, Hunter (Haley Bennett) appears to have it all. A newly pregnant housewife, she seems content to spend her time tending to an immaculate home and doting on her Ken-doll husband, Richie (Austin Stowell). However, as the pressure to meet her controlling in-laws and husband's rigid expectations mounts, cracks begin to appear in her carefully created facade. Hunter develops a dangerous habit, and a dark secret from her past seeps out in the form of a disorder called pica - a condition that has her compulsively swallowing inedible, and oftentimes life-threatening, objects. A provocative and squirm-inducing psychological thriller, SWALLOW follows one woman's unraveling as she struggles to reclaim independence in the face of an oppressive system by whatever means possible.

This film is Magnificent and a excellent example of how people only criticize others without knowing the problems they suffer in life❗️Nobody is Perfect and Mental illness unfortunately is like Cancer, ask for help if you need it, your life is the most important ⚜️

First half good body horror then half way through it becomes a drama about rape, and abortion and a woman’s right to choose. Honestly felt like 2 separate movies which made it dumb and unsatisfying. I would have LOVED it had they gone with the body horror aspect and just ran with that. The second half could have been a good separate movie on its own. Oh well.

This movie was exactly what I needed during quarantine! It reawakened my love for art and masterful filmmaking. I’m proud to say The Invisible Man has competition for best horror movie of 2020! P.S. don’t listen to these political nutheads; they can’t even tell the difference between an indie film and a Hollywood one (removes all their credibility lol) I will purchase Swallow on Blu-Ray.

Detractors to the message of this particular film largely seem to be focusing one singular aspect (abortion), and completely disregarding all of the other aspects at play. It’s a story about living with a mental condition, and trauma. The trauma within the character pertains to a particular aspect of her own identity (her birth), which she never contended with/processed. While the character in the film goes through her own trials and makes decisions that to the viewer seems extreme. The film is in no way saying to the audience “this is how you have to handle this kind of a situation”. And to paint the film in such a narrow light like that is completely reductive. Look at the bigger picture. The film is a character study. It’s an analysis, purely observational. How you feel about it after is entirely up to you, but try to keep in mind EVERY aspect of the film. Not just the one.
  • Intersting but not enough character development

Not sure how this got good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The concept was good but I felt like the main character was underdevelped and one dimensional. It could have been done more effectively...
