Description

Gifted with sometimes-prophetic dreams and a lifelong interest in the paranormal, Sheila (Marin Ireland) is asked to investigate a potential haunting at a Tennessee farmhouse. It’s there she meets Richard (Jim Gaffigan), a recent widower who believes his wife may still be with him. The investigation that ensues — which eventually pulls in Shelia’s son, Owen and his classmate Lucy — forces them to confront the mysteries of their own lives. Featuring original music by Adam Granduciel and Jon Natchez of The War on Drugs.

  • A great 30 minute show, not a movie

This reminded me of A Ghost Story, the movie with Casey Affleck. It is slllooowww. It really isn’t a paranormal movie even. It is a movie about a guy talking about losing his wife and a boy deciding to love a girl. That’s pretty much it. Seriously. The script is slow going - like molasses slow. On the positive side, it is kind of thought provoking, maybe, but I’m trying to be nice.
  • Beautiful reflection on loss and faith...

This is a contemplative film, a quiet and beautiful exploration of grief and loss and faith. In terms of pace and landscape and the feeling of real characters, this movie is reminiscent of Tender Mercies in a way, albeit very different subject matter. Now about viewer expectations. If you go in anticipating a horror film of some kind or jump-scare paranormal events, you may be disappointed. For *some* viewers with those expectations, this film, as it eschews those conventions and strives for something deeper, may be deeply satsifying. But if you just can't accept the movie on its own terms, and felt you were owed a "ghost story," Light From Light will disappoint and frustrate you. It's not for everyone. There's something about this film, something more spiritual and theological, working underneath the surface. The writer-director is using the so-called ghost story as a starting off point to explore deeper thematic concerns. It's subtle, but it lands powerfully.
  • Not enough paranormal to be worth anything!

I watched this because of the great audience and critic reviews online. Mistake. Absolute waste of time. No paranormal activity, no excitement. Just dialogue and random scenes to lead to one giant heaping pile of boredom. Waste of my evening.
