Description

Wendy, a part-time summer employee at a mountainous state park, takes on a rough trail assignment at the end of the season, trying to prove to her friends that she’s capable enough to do the job. When she takes a wrong turn and ends up deep in the backcountry, she stumbles upon what might be a potential crime scene. Stuck with no communication after losing her radio and with orders to guard the site, Wendy must fight the urge to run and do the harder job of staying put — spending the night deep in the wilderness, facing down her worst fears and proving to everyone — including herself — that she’s stronger than she thinks.

  • Decent and easy watch if you don’t expect too much...

So I've had this on my watchlist for a few months since hearing about it at the film festivals. I'm a horror fanatic and love good thrillers as well! This one got some decent reviews so I kept an eye out for it on streaming and it finally came to Hulu! Some of the reviewers said they couldn't get past the first few minutes and I can't say I don't understand why. It's slow and a little silly in the first 1/3 of the movie but that's kind of setting up the campy/80s vibe of the film. We get an introduction to our main character and pretty quickly discover her lack of forestry experience and common sense. Nonetheless, I went into this movie expecting to maybe like it but not much else. And I think if you can do that then you'll enjoy the film. This movie created a good sense of dread in my opinion. Especially if you've ever been out in the woods alone at night, you know how dark it gets and how scary it can seem.

This movie was watchable, but it was nothing new. I have seen similar films with much more substance. Without telling the plot; it pretty much focuses on 1 female stuck in the wilderness trying to survive until rescued. She faces the wilds of her " surroundings" with movie making her into an unbelievable " superwoman"

This a film for teens. It contains minimal plot, facile development and a really bizarre story line.

The concept is good. The movie is not. Not believable, they got lost with the story halfway through, and lost it on the ending. I wouldn’t recommend
  • A bit tonally confused

At times, I think this film hits the nail on the head with originality. Instead of rugged survivalist against nature, it takes someone who knows very little and puts her smack dab in the middle of the wild. The cinematography was exceptionally well done in some portions, really accentuating how beautiful but eerie the wilderness can be when you're all alone. However, something just felt off at times about certain characters and the overall tone of the film. Reactions to events that occur at the end of the film seemed off, as in certain characters seemed to take pretty serious events quite lightly. Tonally, I guess I just felt confused as to the story that was being told , especially when we get to the meat and potatoes last 30 minutes of the story. I don't really want to spoil anything because... Overall, its still an engaging story. The end is worth it, and puts the rest of the film in perspective. I just wish they could have paced the story a bit more quickly in some parts.

Seemed a bit contrived at first, but spooky man vs nature theme ending in a surprising and spooky twist! Nicely original!
