  • Really well done, subtle movie.

This film hits all the right notes. It's not overdone, the character portayals are not just monolithic steryotypes, which is always good, but the film being based on a true story, makes this all the more essential. Not to mention the message of the film, which to me, is more needed now than ever. "Boy Erased" gets its message out there, but it does so in a way that's kind and oddly defusing. I can't say I'd be as kind when discussing conversion therapy, but that's honestly a credit to this film's genius.

This film was so well done showing the ignorance of so many and the hate that these conversion camps are created on. I think everyone should be free to love who they want. This was a beautiful film and story. Parents should never send their children to these places, they are truly abusive and lead often to suicide. I hope one day all these places will be shut down and the people running them put in jail for the abuse and trauma they cause.

I was honestly disappointed with this movie. The acting is solid and still has a strong message but it gets over dramatic sometimes. Some of the characters are one dimensional and aren’t given enough time for the audience to get to know them so when something happens to them it doesn’t really hit you as hard as the film makers want it too. Even the preacher man is very cliche, his only personality is homophobe which is just lazy. I still like this movie but it felt like a lgbt movie I’ve already seen before because it focuses on the same message of “its okay to be gay” and “homophobia bad”, which is starting to become overplayed.

I've heard some weird hypes surrounding this movie, heard it was banned from some conservative third world countries, that I took my time to check it out. The premise is promising, but the execution... So bad! Very boring and way too long, besides being somewhat pretentious. Not worthy of your money and time! Save them for something better.
