Description

Based on the international best-selling autobiographical books "Papillon" and "Banco," this action-packed true story follows the epic life of Henri "Papillon" Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil's Island. Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with quirky convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon's escape. This film is a thrilling adventure and a powerful portrait of the resilience of the human spirit, even in the face of utter inhumanity.

Love this movie. Done well. Charlie is very underrated actor. He is better the ones out there now. He needs to be shown his acting out here more. The second pacific rim was ruined because he was not in it.

you jerks didn’t even read Charrière’s book disgustingly clean ... actors all fresh cut hair with manicures ... straight clean teeth ... all new clothes and proper shoes ... screenwriters have never been to any prison let alone experienced any suffering bad casting bad writing bad movie this review is too much effort than deserved

The actor playing Papillon did a great job with a great effort, but shooting this in California rather than onlocation is obvious to anyone who travels. The story was altered, the use of Native Americans from the region is minimized and the nun scene and Native American scene merged into something that doesn't give a sense of paradise during his escape attempt. Descisions like the above are found throughout the movie, thus making this movie fall short of the original.

Skip this one. Very superficial with no ability to draw the viewer to the character’s plight. They failed to make the characters pitiable and real. They have a shallow moral backbone.
  • Two great actors

Great Movie. Shouldn’t be over looked . Seen the older version years ago. This is a great version also . With a good cast & great cinema photography. Can’t blame the guy for wanting his freedom.
