Description

From Studio Ponoc and Academy Award® nominee Hiromasa Yonebayashi, director of When Marnie Was There and key animator on Spirited Away, comes a dazzling new adventure about a young girl who discovers a flower that grants her magical powers – but only for one night. Mary is an ordinary young girl stuck in the country with her Great-Aunt Charlotte when she discovers an old broomstick and the strange flower that blossoms only once every seven years. Suddenly, Mary finds herself whisked away to Endor College – a school of magic run by Madam Mumblechook and the brilliant Doctor Dee. But the school is not all that it seems, and when Mary tells a lie, she must risk her life to try to set things right.

The pacing and plot are great in this movie. I decided to watch this because I adore Spirited Away, and the same key animator did this movie. The character development and personality are great. All in all, this movie is AMAZING! 👍🏼👏🏼🥳🤩

It’s like Bruce Almighty, Mamma Mia, Back to the Future & Jurassic Park all put inside an adorable blender. A MASTERPIECE. :D

Not my favorite. I thought the story would be more hyped and great but it’s basically about her becoming a which. What catch me the most is the voice casting is weird and it’s not that quite popular at all. I just think it wasn’t perfect. That’s the only problem.

GKids generally distributes very good animated films. It’s a pitty that US studios don’t make many quality 2D animated films anymore. But this is a good one! If you and your family enjoy 2D over 3D cgi films, it looks like you’ll need to be showing your kids older cartoons or foreign films like this one.
  • ❤️The Original Japanese Version Option!

I don’t know if it’s Apple’s doing, or the studio’s/licensees’, but I’m so pleased that there’s an option for the original, Japanese version included with the movie purchase, particularly since I didn’t see any Japanese language listed in the description. I’ve often reluctantly purchased dubbed productions, because no other options are offered, only to later find the original. I, like many story/anime “purists” (I know, cringe & roll your eyeballs...just bear with me, here) hands-down prefer original language versions of all filmed media, but particularly of Japanimation. So many nuances and micro-expressions are often literally “lost in translation” when dubbed, even if done well. It just isn’t the same feel/atmosphere, and the simple expressions of the ever-ebullient youth, well-known for example, in Miyazaki productions ( the “ehh?!” that expresses incredulous shock, or the energetic agreements of “mm!” & “hai!”) are sorely missed in dubbed anime. All of this aside, this is a fantastic, gorgeous movie, a must for the collection; I loved every moment, and although a bit like Spirited Away, it is far less dark. Perfection!

Movie itself is a "B" but having the Japanese version in the iTunes Extras made it an instant "buy". Unfortunately I don't think you get that if you just Rent the movie. Hope to see more of this format in the future (original version in iTunes Extra).
