Description

From the award-winning director of Hotel Rwanda comes a powerful and sweeping epic set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire. Sparks fly when a humble Armenian medical student (Isaac) falls in love with an artist (Le Bon) already committed to a renowned and worldly journalist (Bale). But as tensions rise with the outbreak of World War I, the trio must set passions aside to survive as the world around them crumbles and one of history’s darkest yet rarely told chapters unfolds before their eyes.

This is a film about the Turkish attempt to eradicate the Armenians and it is historical based on true stories and beautifully done. The acting is excellent by everyone although most of the actors were unknown to me except for Christian Bale. Production design A: Costumes A+: cinematography A: story A+: Casting A This is really worth watching. It is one of the many legacy’s that Kirk Kerkorian has left and he wanted to this story to be known.

Tragic story and tells the truth of what happened to the Armenians in 1915. Dramatically perfect movie.

It's a great movie about a part of the history which still is not known by many. I'm glad to see such a good movie was made about the Armenian Genocide. I hope more people around the world get the chance to watch it.

Such an important part of history, the director had a golden opportunity to educate the world about the genocide against the Armenian people and yet what does he do...bogs it all down with a lame love triangle. This should have been more Shindlers List or the Pianist...this is about genocide so drive the point home!!! Parts of the movie was laughable as it focuses more on the love story than history. Disappointing.

There's no doubt that the Armenian genocide provides a controversial backdrop in which to stage a love story. But The Promise navigates this perfectly; providing a compelling story that is also remarkably accurate (even down to the detail of the Turkish Interior Minister attempting to collect insurance money on the very Armenians he had killed) and . The result is a tale that moves you on so many different levels. You're moved by the plight of the Armenian people, but also by characters and the love story that unfolds. Every Turk still in denial about the Armenian genocide should see this. It provides a path into the real history of the events that may be more accessible than more traditional books and articles. A great movie that does what movies should do best: Move you!

The facts are overwhelmingly clear, and still they deny the truth from being told. Thanks to the crew at Survival Pictures, as you have created a gem of a movie. Generations will know this dark chapter in our history, and their is no-way the powers at be can silence the TRUTH! #KeepThePromise #TurkeyFailed
