Description

3 GENERATIONS tells the stirring and touching story of three generations of a family living under one roof in New York as they must deal with the life-changing transformation by one that ultimately affects them all. Ray (Elle Fanning) is a teenager who knows he’s a boy, even though he was assigned female at birth. Ray has already been living as a boy for years, but is now ready to start hormone replacement therapy. His single mother, Maggie (Naomi Watts), must track down Ray’s biological father (Tate Donovan) to get his legal consent to allow Ray’s transition. Dolly (Susan Sarandon), Ray’s lesbian grandmother is having a hard time accepting that she now has a grandson. They must each confront their own identities and learn to embrace change and their strength as a family in order to ultimately find acceptance and understanding.

it's sad that such an important subject is completely lost in this story of 3 (or more) awful people. the cast is made up of really good actors, yet the characters they play are one dimensional and simply bad people. ray is ungrateful and therefore completely unsympathetic, the "father" is a deadbeat, the mother is irresponsible, the grandmother is selfish and her partner (as sweet as she is) is just some silent bystander. not just disappointed by this, but frustrated that i sat through this mess hoping for something to get better. don't bother with this one.

Loved this film, the cinematography is stunning, set design, characters, especially Ray. Relevant topics family, love tendeness, rage, acceptance....transgender I found it rich and authentic.

The story was well done and will help with many issues. A good Transgender movie. Funny- sad- happy - just see for yourself and forget the critics. Nice ending.

The story may seem like an uncommon one at first, but really the story is a typical one, that is, dirty little lies, if unconfronted, eventually become dirty BIG lies with all the accompanying baggage and problems. I liked how this one ended.
