It’s hard to find a horror movie quite like this one these days. Instead of jump scares, gut-wrenching gore, and laughably stupid characters, this Hitchcock-esque film relies on a heavily bleak atmosphere from start to finish. The plot is not presented in chronological order, so you really have to pay attention to understand what’s going on. The scenes portray a constant sense of unease, and are beautifully paired with a perfectly eerie soundtrack that will make you feel nothing short of dread throughout the entire movie. The young ladies who star in this film are strong contributors to the atmosphere. I decided to watch this because I’m a big Emma Roberts fan, and her chilling performance was unlike anything else I’ve watched her do (if you’re one of those people who thinks she can’t act, this film will prove you wrong). Kiernan and Lucy were equally impressive as well. If you’re looking for something psychologically terrifying in a similar way to movies like The Shining, this is the perfect modern take.

This isn’t an ‘in your face, jump scare, dead girl crawling on the ceiling’ kind of horror movie. It’s slow burning and atmospheric. The taught tension reminded of The Shining. I’ve watched it upwards of 5 times so to the reviewer who said you watch it once and never again- that was your experience, not mine. You shouldn’t make a generalization like that. Tell people you’ll watch it once and never again, not that they will. I feel like people don’t understand that movies are subjective, therefore criticisms of movies are subjective. I could love it, you could hate it. But to say things like, how could they have the nerve to release this to the public (that’s a paraphrase of a reviewer’s comment)? That’s just rude. You’re really that arrogant to believe because you didn’t like it, it shouldn’t be released to the general public? That’s what’s wrong with our generation. Differing opinions aren’t allowed. If one person doesn’t like it, it’s a “bad movie.” And that one person believes the movie or TV show should be made specifically to THEIR viewing preferences. To live in a world where if you don’t like the ending to a series, you sign a petition to have it rewritten is just sad. It ignores all the time and money spent to make said series. Your opinion isn’t all that matters. If you don’t like something, say you don’t like it. Explain why you don’t like it. But don’t tell someone else how they should feel about it. Or just because you didn’t like it, that it shouldn’t be made. Lol, imagine being that selfish. Cant relate.

Superb performances, kudos to artists with dedication. however. . . . This is JUST another slasher film in the vague guise of the supernatural. The gore WHOLLY unwarranted, the drama strangely muted. Another THROW IT ALL IN and focus on nothing Film - except possibly for the blood & gore. The soundtrack tells us from the opening, ‘Be afraid, be afraid, be very AFRAID’ because the writer/director wasn’t creative enough otherwise. The Scrn’Play is completely without context or explanation.
  • Worst. Movie. Ever.

I hated this movie with the burning passion of a thousand suns. I LOVE unique horror movies, but NOT the kind that are so overly artsy that they almost seem to be self aware. If you liked Donnie Darko, you will probably like this movie. If you hated Donnie Darko, this one was far worse.

This is an awesome slow burn horror flick. It uses horror to make a statement about abandonment. Different than other horror flicks and I def enjoyed.

This movie has zero plot and main theme and is slow, depressing, confusing, boring, and I honestly think I would get more stimulation out of removing ear wax from my ear or clipping my toenails than suffering through this pretentiously slow lack of substance thing they call a horror movie. Yes there is some violebnce at the end that I remember seeing the first time, but over an hour into the second time watching I had to turn it off due to the sheer boredom and lack of character development. It deserves a half star.

The movie is like sandpaper to the soul. It burrows into the viewer’s psyche in a stressful crescendo of trauma and macabre chaos. One cannot help but leave at least one light on the night after first viewing the film.

This is by far one of the worst movies I have seen in awhile. Takes forever to get anywhere and by the time it does its over. It is so drawn out and boring. Definitely not a scary movie or a even that great of a thriller. It’s like watching paint dry.
