Description

Sixteen-year-old John Wayne Cleaver (Max Records, Where the Wild Things Are) is not a serial killer — but he has all the makings of one. Keeping his homicidal tendencies and morbid obsessions with death and murder in check is a constant struggle that only gets harder when a real serial killer begins terrorizing his sleepy Midwestern town. Now, in order to track down a psychopath and protect those around him, John must unleash his darkest inner demons. Based on the cult novel by Dan Wells, this twisted, genre-bending thriller co-stars Christopher Lloyd and Breaking Bad's Laura Fraser.

I loved this film and now I'm out to read the book since I didn't realize this was adapted from a cult novel! Kept me on the edge of my seat and some of the topics discussed kept my attention. Loved the morbidity and horror :)

They did a great job sticking to Dan Well's story. It was almost exactly like the book. John was portrayed well. Crowley was portrayed perfectly. My only problem was Brooke. They really should have tried harder to make her as cute and lovable as she is in the book. Hopefully if they make a 'Mr Monster' movie they will be able to redeem her character. In the book Brooke was adorable and an unforgettable character. In the movie she was just sort of there.
  • a rather boring story........

Surprisingly well put together. It's unusual for a horror movie to have much depth.
  • Delightful

Didn't read the books, but if you like Dexter, you should love this. Shot on super 16mm, and despite a low budget (1.3 million), I am not a serial killer looks killer (SNAP), and becames immediately fascinating to watch. Max Records (the revelation in Where The Wild Things Are, on a hiatus since The Sitter), now 18, is phenomenal as the lead character, shades of Gyllenhaal in Donnie Darko come to mind. Christopher Lloyd is equally as compelling, and lovers of Doc Brown, you are in for a shock ! A clever mesh of genres, the third act might not sit well with everyone, but horror lovers will definitely get a kick out of that uber cool element, adding to the mystery. I implore you to watch this A S A P !

Such a cool and unexpected performance from Doc Brown - wish he was cast more often. And just a smart, funny twist on the "monster with a code" sub-genre. Like DEXTER coming of age, but with an even twistier plot. Glad I checked it out.
