Description

Reeling from a terrifying assault over the summer, 19-year-old Brad Land (Ben Schnetzer) starts college determined to get his life back to normal. His brother, Brett (Nick Jonas), is already established on campus and with a fraternity that allures Brad with its promise of protection, popularity, and life-long friendships. Brad is desperate to belong but as he sets out to join the fraternity his brother exhibits reservations, a sentiment that threatens to divide them. As the pledging ritual moves into hell week, a rite that promises to usher these unproven boys into manhood, the stakes violently increase with a series of torturous and humiliating events. What occurs in the name of ‘brotherhood’ tests both boys and their relationship in brutal ways.

  • It is a REAL STORY

I bought this because I read the memoir, so I am confused to why a lot of the negative reviews are claiming that the "screenplay sucked." Many of the quotes (obviously not all) are based on actual conversations- line for line from the book. I thought it was good, and I guarantee a lot of people in collegiate greek life chapters will come in flocks to "de bunk" this one person's experience. I know not all frats are like this, but this movie is well acted and the (true) tale is heartbreaking.

I thought it was going to be a stereotypical Frat movie, but I honestly thought it was well directed, very raw and sensitive at the same time. To me it had realistic situations, even though it was still dramatized, but most movies are like that. I would just say it for yourself and make your own opinions.
  • Not as bad as people say

I'm reading a lot of bad reviews here but I really don't think it deserved a 1 or a 2 star. it DEF was not that bad. The acting wasn't bad at all. I couldn't cry on demand like that. I thought it was actually pretty intense and literally made me want to cry at some points. And made me not want to let my son ever join a frat lol

this movie is not confusing first of all... and i actually enjoyed this movie. Vewers will experience typical hazing but it can reach an extreme at times and there's a couple sex scenes but they're short. I really wish they explored more of the fraternity life like animal house did. It feels like this was filmed over a night. You only see James Franco once. This movie is meant for when you're trying to kill time.
  • Raw, Emotive Look into the Ills of Unbridled Testosterone

A raw, emotive look into the ills of unbridled testosterone. A masterful, often documentary like, depiction of the age old right of passage for many young pledges. Those who come looking for light and fluffy need to take their one star ratings back to daytime Disney or take the sociological plunge into what it means to be a teenage boy with wide impressionable eyes. An illuminating and tough film that's definitely worth a second watch.

I viewed this as college woman in a sorority. My school was one of the five in the country selected to pre-screen it before it’s release. I was immediately drawn when i watched the trailer. It seemed so interesting and honestly shocking and intense! After i viewed the actual film i was sorely let down. All the interesting/good parts were in the trailer. Only 2 real intense part and the ending… don’t even get me started. Totally answers no questions. Not sure if my time was completely wasted watching this but i really did expect a lot more. Only huge plus side is Nick Jonas is in the film lol *heart eyes*.
