For the Love of Spock

I loved this documentary! Knowing more about the actor helped me better understand the icon Spock became. Both were complex in their own ways. Leonard's son does a great job sharing the relationship he had with his dad, while exploring Spock's global cultural influence. This documentary is well worth the time to watch and the 99 cents to rent it!

Adam Nimoy started off with the benefit of being able to deliver a biography from the unique perspective of literally growing up with Star Trek as "Spock's son". On the "Star Trek material" alone he delivers the goods, but then goes well above and beyond to share the honest (sometimes, warts and all) ups and downs of their relationship throughout life, as well as the genuine breadth depth of his father's career - as an actor, as a father, as a husband, a friend and - as the movies explains - a true "mensch." More than just about "Star Trek", more than just a biography, Adam Nimoy brilliantly succeeds in delivering a deeply touching story about the relationships between fathers and sons. I Can not reccomend this one enough. Enjoy it!

I was always a fan of Spock the character, but now I am also a fan of Mr. Nimoy the man, actor and father. I was truly moved by the interviews of the cast of both the original series and the new films. Their candor, respect and decency as people was clearly apparent in the interviews. Really, really great stuff here, watch this and enjoy.

This is a great overview of Leonard Nimoy's life. It does seem to gloss over some of the darker sides of Leonard (nothing is mentioned of his divorce, his alcohol abuse is covered in just a minute or so), but this is to be expected, particularly when it is being told by his son. I do want to mention that there are a number of interviews with J.J. Abrams cast members from the new Star Trek movies, as well as J.J. Abrams himself, and there are moments when I was asking myself "why is this person in this film?" (maybe I am still upset about "Star Trek Into Darkness" trying to flat out lift entire scenes from Star Trek 2, that hack J.J. should be begging Nimoy for forgiveness for the horrors he did in "Into Darkness", and bringing Kahn into "Darkness", COME ON!, but I digress). I would have preferred a more objective treatment of Leonard willing to cover the darker sides a bit more, this is still a great movie.

Thank you Adam for doing this film. I am a huge fan of your fathers work and your film helped me to understand just how incredible he truly was. It was also very brave to show both your fathers human side while exposing your own. I am sure your father would be very proud as few directors can bring forth such honesty, expose the messy things in live, yet have your audience cheer you along. After seeing this film, I started going back and watching you're father on film and found that I was no longer seeing a very gifted actor maximize a role, but an artist who believed in the art and is determined to keep both the character and the story true to its purpose. While many already see your father as a brilliant artist, it is clear that we still underestimated just how brilliant and important he really was, and still is. Now and forever.

I used to write to the TV studio and they would send me 8x11 black and white glossies. I had Spock, Kirk, and Bones. This movie is fantastic and brings back those early days in full color. Great movie and well done. Well done.

An incredible tribute from a son about his father, both as a man and as a public persona loved by millions. So glad I backed the Kickstarter and helped to bring this story of fame, family, and the power of love.

A wonderful film about Leonard Nimoy, Spock and a father/son relationship. Very high quality footage of all sorts, great interviews and personal stories all woven together beautifully. What a treat, very personal.

Such a beautiful and touching homage to a great man and father! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this film. Life wasn't always perfect and there's no glossing over the difficult times. It's a real story told in a very real way as only a son could tell it. Live long and prosper!
