A Bigger Splash

For an overview of the narrative Manohla Dargis of the NYTimes does an excellent job in detailing the background, performances, etc. of this film which has garnered a 90% approval rating from top critics. I loved this film, the beautiful exotic setting, the incredible performances by the actors, the cinematography and creative and brilliant directing. Not for one second was I bored or felt the film didn't feel authentic. Particularly Ralph Fiennes character whose brilliant interpretation of a life filled with exuberance and conflict that was positively mesmerizing. Dakota Johnson perfectly portrayed the snarky, I could care less, teenager using her sexual prowess over adults in crises, who herself is in psychological crises. And Tilda Swinton, as always, simply melts into her character so convincingly you might feel that if you visited Pantelleria you would see her there. This is an intense, unpredictable psychological study of lives at a terrible crossroad with a shocking and unforeseeable result. It is entertaining, gritty and sensual with a spot on sound track.

After 2 weeks I had trouble remembering what the film was about. It moved a little bit slow, but the backdrop was beautiful and the acting was very good.I gave it 4 stars anyway, but more like 3.5.

Featuring bravura performances from its top cast, A Bigger Splash is even much better than the little known cult film on which it is based. The story is fantastic, with plenty of tension and mystery that only continues to build throughout the movie, as well as plenty of gorgeous photography. Ralph Fiennes delivers a great performance while Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson are the real scene stealers. It's so far one of the greatest films of 2016 that has a few unexpected dark twists to offer. It's a sizzling drama that shouldn't be missed.
