Description

A French woman finds liberation in the dusty highways, wide open spaces, and smoky barrooms of the American West in this captivating road movie. Diane Kruger stars as the Parisian Romy who, while on vacation in California, breaks things off once and for all with her boorish husband (Gilles Lellouche) in a dramatic final fight. A free woman in a strange land, Romy embarks on a life-changing trip through the desert that brings in her touch with strangers who impact her life in various ways: a kindly small town police officer (Joshua Jackson), a pregnant, trailer park-dwelling mother (Lena Dunham), and a charming, ruggedly independent cowboy (Norman Reedus) with whom she finds the possibility of new love. Beautifully capturing the landscapes and soul of the Southwest, Sky is a stirring emotional odyssey about what it means to start your life over again.

This film is honestly so beautiful. It’s even more beautiful that these are actually together now and starting a life together. ❤️

I love both of the actors in the movie, its started off a little slow in my opinion, its also a sad movie, I felt like it was rushed a little towards the end, we didn’t see enough chemistry between the two leads because the male lead( Norman Reedus) wasn’t introduced until around 30 minutes into the film.. However, I really enjoyed it.

Strengths: Great 1st act and setup. Great performances. Love the cast and locations. Well edited and paced. Weaknesses: Meandering 2nd and 3rd acts with your typical, indie film ending. Great western locations, and lighting was decent throughout, but camera work was just a bunch of handheld camera with what I thought was little thought for composition. Felt like a student film in that regard. Overall, film intrigues in the beginning, but loses steam and purpose as it chugs along. A few meaningful moments, a few great moments of tension, but by the end, you may be left wondering, “why do I care about these particular characters?” I’m not saying not to see this film. I have an open mind and that’s why I saw it. But so many indie films have these great moments, great scenes, great performances, but lack any sort of through line or purpose. That was the feeling for me on this one. Side note for the curious: Movie is unrated, but had the filmmakers chosen to get it rated it would have been “R” for sex, nudity, and language.

Absolutely stunning imagery coupled with an intense examination of relationships and hard choices. This is a love letter to taking the road less traveled and coming out the other side triumphant, but battle scarred. Romy is an interesting character, and I love her interactions with everyone along her journey. I look forward to this being more than a rental. Great soundtrack, and beautiful chemistry between Mr. Reedus and Ms. Kruger. I’ve been to nearly all of the locations they filmed in, and the scenery is incredible—makes me want to hop in a car and drive until I find…something.

also great style, symbolism, Magritte allusions, I could go on… Too strange to be ‘perfect,’ but wouldn’t want it any other way. Far from normal or formulaic. Never boring. Layered. Dirty. Redeeming. Just superb.

This a new all time favorite for both my husband and me. It's a slow burning, suspenseful, visceral film. Beautifully shot and acted.
