Description

“APEX: The Story of the Hypercar” spotlights a new class of exotic sports cars designed to blast from zero to 200 miles per hour in seconds. Rocket science meets the auto industry as “APEX” follows a thread that starts in the design studios and R&D labs where these “fighter jets of the street” are created, and leads to a perilous racetrack in Germany where drivers can reach new heights of speed and performance -- if they dare. Equal parts human drama and speed, “APEX” follows Swedish entrepreneur Christian von Koenigsegg, a lifelong sports car enthusiast on a personal quest to build a “mega” car whose golden ratio defies all expectations for a hypercar's velocity and power, while competing against the biggest names in motorsports for space on the world stage. With insights from top engineers and designers, "APEX” pulls back the curtain on the top-secret development facilities at Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren and Pagani, where awe-inspiring hypercars are imagined and built, and puts you inches from the action, as top drivers shake down the latest hypercars, flat-out on some of the world’s greatest racetracks.

Amazing, high quality footage with in depth info for car enthusiasts who appreciate the technical specifications of highly sophisticated, fast moving piece of unobtainable art...at least for the average, everyday Joe-six-pack. At must see!! 😎🏁
  • Great Film. Wonderfully shot. Worth watching if you love cars.

If you're a gear head and like supercars and mostly cars that are unobtainable to the average person this is a nice insight into the minds of some of the people driving this industry (pun semi-intended). While not very in-depth the pacing and the shooting just adds to the film to make it a much watch for car fans.

Watched this film 3 times now and it does not dissappoint. The passion of the automakers came through the screen so much that it made me passionate and hoping I am lucky enough to own one of these Hypercars in the future.
  • More than just a film about cars

More than likely, you purchased this film because you are a car enthusiast and are interested in the amazing spectacle and awe generated by the current set of hyper cars. This documentary informs you on that topic. In addition, this documentary manages to accomplish what all truly great documentaries do and that is to not just talk about the particular subject or issue but, rather connect the topic to the bigger picture of humanity and it accomplishments in general. This film’s title is very literal for a reason in that these hyper cars are very literally the apex of engineering today. In many ways, these cars represent today’s “Space Race” of sorts and have once again put some of humanity’s greatest minds in the finest arena of human achievement, competition. More broadly however, these cars are more than just vehicles or great pieces of industrial design, they are pieces of art. These vehicles are the merging of form and function and are some of humanity’s greatest pieces of engineering along with the Concorde, Space Shuttle and other great machines. This documentary ultimately makes cars an arena in which man and more broadly humanity tries to beat ever greater odds and triumph in the face of adversity. This documentary does a great job of making it a story about the amazing minds behind these vehicles and the intense completion between these minds that goes on which makes the film have an emotional and human component to it. This film might not satisfy some car enthusiasts as it’s not an hour and a half long technical briefing on hyper cars but rather, this is a film that would be a great way to explain to your friends or family why you are a car enthusiast. Kudos to the crew at TangentVector for crafting a documentary that might be about hyper cars but, ultimately uses the hyper car as a vessel to talk about humanity’s need for competition and want to always better itself no matter the odds. This is probably the greatest documentary on vehicles I have seen. This is truly the story of the four-wheeled rocket ships and the amazing people that are creating dreams for many and a car for the privileged few.

Contrary to what most people have rated this movies so far, I would say it deserves about three stars. I expected a general overview of the typical hypercar, and a lot more technical details, but instead I’ve got a story which revolves a lot around Koenigsegg. Sure, I’ve learned a few things about Pagani and Koenigsegg, but this movie could have been much better, with a more progressive storyline.

I did enjoy this documentary. However the early trailers promised so much, that I can't help feeling a little disappointed. I never really learned anything that I hadn't seen in other shows long since published by the team. I suppose the high level of their work over the last few years just made me expect more than was delivered. Chris did little more than narrate and where was Matt? If you've never seen Drive on YT then you are in for a treat, but what are the chances you've never seen it?
