45 Years

Decent, sweet movie. Stellar acting. Nearly lost me a few times to the sandman.

I believe I only managed to watch 45 minutes if this film, waiting for something to happen. Once I realized I was wasting my time, I stopped watching it and deleted it. The message I got from it was: "Old age has no purpose." I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. Take my word for it and don't waste your time and money on a film about two senior citizens obsessing over something that happened 45 years ago.

The use of "the country side" with its negative space framing becomes another main character in the film. It echoes the distance between the couple. A marriage of so many years has depths only those who experience it can understand. Life is full of love & loss. Not many share all tragedies with a spouse.

BORING!

With all the rave reviews, we had high hopes. Alas, a couple of excellent actors realistically portrayed a long-married couple, when a secret from the past shakes the union. Okay, but just not compelling stuff.

This was so very boring that I can come up with nothing else to say. Just pitiful, really pitiful.

Wow - is the Academy ageist or what? I finally got to see the best performance by an actress last year when I watched 45 Years (and why wasn’t Tom Courtney nominated for anything?) Charlotte Rampling should have won the Oscar - she and Tom Courtney give masterful performances and the last scene is still sticking in my brain. Amazing how many emotions can be conveyed by a single look and gesture - crushing, brilliant, bravo!!!

I had heard a lot about Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtney’s performances in the film during the awards season but to be honest I wasn’t prepared for how devastating the film would be. Great direction, incredibly moving story. Charlotte Rampling’s performance should have won her the Oscar - it is probably the best bit of acting I can remember seeing on screen. Definitely worth every minute

I really enjoyed the the actors and the story was something I could relate to as a middle aged person. I didn’t find it depressing as much as I thought it was realistic, I would have liked to see what happened on Sunday.

Maybe I’ll give this film a second viewing, but I did find it downright depressing the first time around and there is nothing worse than being stuck in a bog of depression for a couple of hours.
