Description

When Sophie’s son, Garrett, develops a mysterious illness, she embarks on a search for answers. This leads her into the controversial world of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) where a sociopolitical battle rages between organic farmers and big biotech corporations. As her desperation grows, so too does her quest for knowledge. And the deeper she goes, a more heightened sense of danger develops that preys on her state of mind, as she attempts to discover the root cause of her son’s illness.

  • GMOs give me GERD

This movie single-handedly got me to eliminate GMO-food from my diet. It’s not extraordinarily difficult, but it does require my inspection of grocery items with a non-GMO label. Yikes.

Totally riveting performances and highlights a very topical misunderstood subject. Everyone should know what they are eating. Don’t miss it.

“Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.” (Victor Hugo) The time has come for a film like this to get made and to shed a light onto the subject matter of GMO labeling in this country and the people it affects. Surprisingly, the film doesn’t preach to the audience, but rather uses suspense to tell a really compelling story about a mother and her sick child. I really connected to the story (as a parent of young children), because the film did such a great job showing the emotions you feel as a parent when your child suddenly gets sick…. you feel “CONSUMED”!

I was absolutely CONSUMED watching this beautiful film. I have now studied the film and seen it over 5 times and can genuinely say it was one of the best films of last year. Socially, the film shed light on the polarizing subject of GMO foods and how it can effect our lives and loved ones. If you care about your body and the food that we eat, this is a MUST SEE. Loved all of the performances and the cinematography was masterful. Looking forward to watching/ consuming everything that director Daryl Wein creates.

This movie is a perfect depiction of what society needs to become more aware of. The negative effects of GMO’s should not be ignored and Daryl Wein does a phenomenal job in bringing this global issue to light. Great cast and great story!

“Erin Brokovich for right now” might be a good way to describe Consumed, with Sophie (played by Zoe Lister-Jones) as a frightened, resourceful, single, working mother with a son whose illness eludes the medical profession, compelling Sophie to look elsewhere and everywhere for explanations and solutions. Action-packed with some fine acting by Danny Glover (an organic farmer), Taylor KInney (a single dad who’s a cop), we see Sophie transform into an empowered political being, bravely acting on behalf of all of us who deserve to know what’s in our food. Nuanced and strong dramatic performance by Lister-Jones, more familiar to audiencesfor her comedic roles.

I LOVED this film. I saw it at the LA Film Festival and was really impressed. This is nothing like your average documentary. The film brings to light an extremely important, current issue, through an engaging story. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. What an amazing cast. Really impressive dramatic performance from Zoe Lister Jones. I am so glad someone has finally made a movie about this subject that people will relate to. It was thrilling, entertaining and educational! A MUST GO SEE.
  • Brilliant Modern Political Thriller!!

Blew me away at the Los Angeles Film Festival. I was astonished at how good this indie political thriller was when I saw it. Reminded me of the classics from this genre like Erin Brockovich and Traffic. I’ve never seen any movie deal with this subject. It was suspenseful, had amazing acting (Zoe Lister-Jones is a knock-out!), fascinating subject matter. Wow. What an important story with everything that is happening in the real world of GMOs. Our world is messed up, man. This really hits on all cylinders. I thought the filmmaker did an amazing job at weaving together multiple storylines with a lot of interesting information without getting didactic or heavy handed. Tough job with such a complicated issue. Left me asking a lot of questions about the food we eat, and why we are messing so much with Mother Nature…MUST SEE!
