The first hour-or-so of ‘Joy’ is an interesting drama about a woman named Joy who has to support her family. She gets an idea for a mop, does an infomercial and everything seems okay. The last about 45 minutes is a slow, kind of boring feminine uprise where Joy tries to get her invention out there, the idea is stolen, her family becomes upset and everything stinks until the last, like, 10 minutes where everyone gets what they’ve dreamed of. This movie goes back and forth a lot, and I really enjoyed the first 70 minutes, but it just went downhill from there. Jennifer Lawrence’s performance is great, though!

it wasn't. It had some great moments but the not-so-good moments just ruined the movie. It had a confused in the story line, and the mother's voice overs seemed a desperate attempt to add something to the movie. Dissapointed.
  • One of the best, most inspiring movies ever. Jennifer Lawrence is a QUEEN.

WHAT A WONDERFUL MOVIE. This movie is one for the books. As someone with such high goals in my life, this movie gives me hope that no matter the downs in life, you can always prosper. You must have hope, and you must not miss the little JOYs of life.

J-Law, I’m very disappointed in your movie. 🎶 There was a part I didn’t like. Joy got put in Prison because of a stupid theft. I had a DVD of it, but I threw it away in a furious rage. That title of yours said it would bring joy to us people, but people instead said, “This movie is Joyless,” and since it had no success, it won’t get a sequel at all. 🎶 And I never wanna see your movie again.

I cannot relate to the bad reviews. This movie was not to dazzle entertain, in the way Silver Linings was. It is a story of a woman who dedicated herself to others and put her own needs and creativty on hold. And then one day, she had enough. She started with crayons and pushed with the support of her friend, daughter, ex-husbnad and sometimes supportive, sometimes assehole of a father and his most recent lover and her money and competitive sister. She deals with the ups and downs of consumers and sellers rejecting something new, police, debt, doubt, poor marketing by QVC, and then theft of her patent. Yet her determination and combacks are awesome. I always seem to like Jennifer. And in many of her movies, she is often somber. What I like most about her in this film, is her eloquent calm demeanor to others given set back after setback. Very realistic. Great ending and victory. Love matriarchs.

Loosely based on the real life and events of a true entrepreneur. I've laughed through and loved every moment. You kinda have to appreciate sarcasm and a "complex" family unit to relate. My family is Sicilian so I can seriously relate to the drama and how emotional baggage can weigh heavily on the heart but at the same time motivate and inspire. Drama and comedy with a lovely Hollywood ending.

She as always is amazing. I think it's difficult as a viewer to suffer through so many failures when you know in the end she wins!
  • Decent but Akward

The movie is slow and clumsy. Only kept watching to see the happy ending so I didn't feel so bad in the end. Worth renting if it's on sale for $0.99
  • Great story line, kind of dragged

This movie was great but it took a while to cut to the main story line. The beginning doesn't make sense with a soap opera, but if you continue watching for about 45 minutes, it gets better. I reccomend.
